Default Reattaching Door Panel Carpet - How I did it

The carpet on the door cards was pretty filthy. Getting them clean was easy. Pre-soak with Shout!, toss in the washer with some Woolite and 20+ years of grime are gone.

Tools consisted of a pneumatic stapler and 1/8" staples and contact cement.

The process was pretty simple.

Staple the bottom of the carpet aligning the fold to the bottom edge and using copious amounts of staples to attach it to the lower panel edge. Press very hard as you staple your way across the bottom.
Sand down the old glue residue, use brake clean or mineral spirits to clean the surface.
Apply contact cement to carpet and door panel. Wait a few minutes and as you hold the bottom of the carpet edge pull the carpet to the edge of the map pocket.
Go back and add more staples - there is a reason they are so cheap.
Stand back and admire your work.

Attach loose vinyl to map pocket

Properly clean the door panel surface after you attach the carpet to the edge.

Apply glue to panel and carpet

Pull the carpet from the bottom while holding the carpet edge.

Smile at what you accomplished.

That turned out well. My carpet is pretty well shot and I plan to redo the whole interior this winter. Thanks for the tutorial!

Now installed. Opted for a set of cashmere door inserts in stead of the black ones.

For those interested in the benefits of machine washing your carpet. All I did was spray and work in with a brush Shout! prewash treatment and toss into the washer with Woolite. I let them air dry.
