Default Timing belt alignment 85 s2 auto

Hello
Ive spent the last 3 hours trying to get my timing belt to line up perfectly and am really struggling. Im now at the stage where Ive got the TDC mark on the crankshaft and the cam gear on 5-8 to line up perfectly, but 1-4 is slightly out as per the photo. Does this need to be spot on? BTW I'm using the Porken tensioner

thats about a s good as it gets the timing will change a few degrees as the engine warms up.
Put it together.

Just curious why are you installing a new tensioning system the original one works well?

Thanks for the quick reply you're a life saver as usual!. To answer your question the OEM tensioner on mine one looked worse for wear so I spent hours reading the forum trying to decide whether to rebuild it or change to a PKT. Opnion seems divided with strong views either way so thought best not bring it up again. I ended up ordering the PKT because one of my cam gears was quite badly worn and had to be replaced so Im hoping the auto tensioning will reduce this without the need to adjust the belt periodically.

As Stan says, not much you can do with a 16V (unless you do something like this - NLA). When the engine warms up the gear will advance ~2° (notch will move CW). Unfortunately, when the belt has some miles on it, it will stretch creating about ~2° retard so you're back where you started.

Fixed that for you.

Ken I never saw that older post about making adjustable cam gears for the 16V, very creative sir.
