Default CV replacement issie

i am going to go out on a limb and say this is not the way this flange should look.

what are the options? Obviously it was ‘working’.

car is an 83 s, but it has old style axles with Allen head bolts on both the inner and outer joints.

tks

scott

looks like some one used a screwdriver to hold the previous bolt while they torqued/ tiightened the next one, the new CV kit might have a new one of these if not it can be bent back into shape

Default The rest

here is the join itself. Has typical 113k mile wear, but no damage marks like the flange.

Default And one more for posterity

so...I go to pick up the axle (with the other joint still attached) and look what falls out of the end - after cleaning, it certainly looks like a piece of the cage that was sheared off somehow.

Ughhhhhhh

You are the man...let me pull the other joint apart and see what the damage really is.

Note that the boot and the flange it sits on changed around this period. When I removed my first joint and showed it to my local wrench (who has the parts) he said 'Oh you have the later flanges with deep grooves for the later boots' and gave me the correct boots, and joint grease. From your video above you have a shallow groove for the large diameter end of the boot - these were changed to deep grooves - something like 6-8mm - as the boots were slipping off the shallow groove units on 911s as well as 928s. The lip of the boots changed accordingly. Somewhere here there is a thread on this. See thread https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...aft-boots.html , read first pdf file for boot change details.
