Default Optional ICV for 928 S3 ?

I found these parts online and they both cross reference to the bosch and porsche numbers for the ICV * on a 1985 & 1986 USA S3. I have not purchased one - I thought I might need one so researched it. I have been changing the cam cover gaskets, and my idle speed adjuster appears to be moving smoothly, plus I found some suspect vacuum connections. But I searched around found two on amazon that look exactly like the Bosch part. They are being sold as fitting BMWs, but they cross ref the porsche and bosch numbers, and look identical. Perhaps they are cheap junk, but perhaps they are perfectly servicable.

#1 - - Goodeal brand - 65$
goodeal part numbers 13411286065A 13631286065
amazon link: http://a.co/bj7IuTM

#2 - - Evan Fischer brand 45$
EF's part number EVA41472034876
amazon link: http://a.co/9Pa3IJT

from PET illustration 107-32 (page 68 of my pdf, but that could be incorrect numbering)
part # 12 - 928 606 161 00 idle speed adjuster

928-606-161-00
92860616100
bosch number? 0 280 140 509

* called many things - ICV, ISV, ISC (on the microfiche/pet)

I bought the Evan-Fischer BMW sourced part several weeks ago.
I haven’t used it yet, but side by side, It looks identical except no Bosch label.

It's such a trivial part to replace, why not use non bosch parts.

These are pretty common parts off Volvos and Saabs and whatnot, and a used one can be easily cleaned.

1985/86 S3 32v
Currently Bosch is NLA and also dropped from there product list.
Available via Porsche for $544 List.
928 606 161 00 - Bosch 0280 140 509 and a BMW part 13411286065
Everything else out there under these numbers is after market and not Bosch.
We sell an alternative for $85 which is proven.

Any other alternatives that you buy and they work on the S3 post here please so we can add them to the list?

I have installed the evens-fisher on my 86.5 twin screw, works great, and just picked up another one to have on hand.

Can you share how you get to the clamp on the part of the small rubber elbow that goes into the intake? The screw head on that clamp is facing the front of the engine..a mechanic told me they are able to get a screw driver in there by feeding it from the front but I can't see it...
I replaced mine with same Evans Fisher one but have big air leak and am 90% sure it's from this perished part but I can't figure out how to get to that clamp...

I have one from Roger that I used to replace one that had frozen open and was causing a 2K+ idle. It worked, but something was still off with the idle, so as a cheap test I bought a cheap (like, $28!) no-name from Ebay. It had a little American flag on the ad to make it seem like it was American made but I'm pretty sure it was just located in America when I bought it However, it worked just fine. Roger's was good too, whatever else is going on with my car is subtle and I haven't figured it out yet, but both of these ISVs are currently working. What I don't know is how long this cheap Ebay one will work. It does look identical to Rogers, and to the Bosch, for what it's worth.

Bureau13 did you change out the little rubber elbow that goes from the front of the ICV into the intake (on the '86)...if yes, can you tell me how on earth you were able to reach that clamp on the part that goes into the intake? I can't figure it out...not without pulling everything apart...

Ahh, those hoses....I have to admit, I changed both ISV hoses during an intake refresh. I suppose it might be possible if your clamp happens to be clocked the right way, but I haven't tried that. Since I had already replaced both hoses, I made sure I could get to the clamps on the ISV end of both with the intake in place. But the intake side...yeah, that might be a problem. Sorry I don't have any good solutions for that one...

Hey Matt, It can be done, just not enjoyable.
I did the hoses and ICV without a full tear down.
It requires pulling side plenums and the larger intake T pipe coming off the throttle body.
To get your other hand in there pull the air box and MAF.

Easier then taking off intake manifold and fuel rails, but not by much.

Cheers.

"can you tell me how on earth you were able to reach that clamp on the part that goes into the intake?"

Loosen the hose clamps from all 5 ports and remove the right side air distributor/plenum. You can probably reach it then. If not, remove the big intake T. Use a Loooong screwdriver to adjust the hose clamps on the ISV hoses. You can also remove the airbox to further aid access. Stand on the left side, reach your right arm down to the ISV via where the airbox goes, and use the screwdriver in your left hand to tighten up (without overtightening, of course) the hoses.

Assembly is the reverse of disassembly
