Axle Shaft Rebuild question
Pulled my passenger side axle shaft last night - came off very easy. Surprised to find that even in MY83 (late 1982 build), my car still has bolts for the inner and outer CV joint, so I really DIDN'T need to struggle with that 32mm axle bolt. Oh well.
So here is the question. The transmission side CV joint hex head bolts were wired together. I have not seen mention of this in anyone's documentation of the project. Any thoughts on what to replace this with? I am one to think that if Porsche engineers felt it was necessary, it probably is...except for whomever designed the fuel tank cradle.
Thanks all -

Never seen factory axle bolts drilled for safety wire, but given the occasional axle making a run for it after the bolts back out, there's little downside to adding safety wire if the holes are drilled for it. There's a whole section in one of Carroll Smith's books on the proper use of safety wire. And hey, this is an excuse to buy safety wire pliers!

My 83 is a Jan build and has allen head bolts holding the CV on to the diff flanges, but has a unitary outer CV joint. Have never heard of hex head bolts used on the inner end, nor of any being wired.
