Needed: Central CA 928 specialist
I did a search, but looking for anyone who has had experience and can recommend a 928 specialist somewhere between Ventura / Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo (or somewhere within reason). Would appreciate anything as I need to get my car in asap for the routine belt service and would prefer someone very meticulous. Thx!

Bronto,
I talked 928 just for grins with the mechanic there(sorry that I can't remember his name) back a few years ago when I had bought my 88 in Santa Barbara. He was a really nice guy and was actually factory trained in 928s. He doesn't get to use his knowledge on 928s too much for obvious reasons (there aren't too many), but he said he always loved the car and enjoyed working on them.

I've used SGS Independent Porsche (Guy Ober) in San Luis Obispo since I've owned the car and have had good service. To be honest I'm not sure that they love 928's, however I've seen
another nice example serviced there regularly as well.

They have an S4 in the pics on their website and a low mile '84 S 5spd in their used inventory, so they should at least have an appreciation for them...

Yeah, I was there right? At Longboards? I don't remember a mechanic being there though. It must have been Peter Bower. He was indeed trained at the age of 19 on 928s, in 1978, in Stuttgart. Great guy, great mechanic. Unfortunately for us he has had a career and location change. He's now a pastor someone in New England. Upstate NY if I remember correctly. His brother goes to my church here.

The mechanic was not at dinner, as I had talked to him at another time during the trip. Too bad for locals there that he doesn't still work on 928s, but great for him that he's thinking long term (everlasting life)
My mother lived in Santa Barbara back then, but I have since gotten her back to Texas so I don't get out there anymore.

Right, the speaker enclosure was manufactured by Z-Box. Apparently a genuine Porsche option was available in the early years, but they dropped it and Z-Box cloned it. I saw a dual woofer version at Sharktoberfest one year.
