Wheel alignment specs
85 Auto
Having a wheel alignment done in the hopes of silencing the steering wheel chatter at 80+ mph. Found this in the WSM, but the print date for my PDF manuals is 1993. Wondering if these values are correct for the 1985S.
Thanks for any help!
Peace,
Tim

Wheel chatter - how old are the tires, there should be a date code on the sidewall:
If they are new enough to keep, try getting at least the fronts re-balanced at a shop with a Road Force balancer.
As to the alignment, pay close attention to the other page which addresses lifting the car and re-settling the suspension before doing the alignment. The common way to deal with this is find an alignment shop that doesn't have to lift the car first.
However, still need to be 100% sure the nose is settled before taking it over there. This can take a couple hundred or so miles, depends on the car.

Have you had them road force balanced? If not I would try that first and insist on seeing a copy of the report, anything above 15lbs can cause vibrations in my experience.

A road force report will show a road force number for each wheel, the optimal wheel location and pull (if any). Below 10lb is excellent, anything under 15lb will be smooth. I have found if you don't get a copy it usually means it wasn't done.

Thanks Hacker and Adamant. Rear wheels have a final four date digit of 1416 - good tread left. The front wheels, not so great. 2109 and pretty worn. Will need to inquire about replacements for those.
