Just wondered if this was anyone on this board. It looked good and sounded even better. Every time I hear a GTS it makes me think I should have already purchased a RMB

Your comment suggests the GTS comes stock without the rear muffler. Is that the case? Exactly how much better does an RMB make the S4 sound? The stock exhaust already sounds pretty good to me - especially under heavy throttle.
One thing I really appreciate about the 928S4 is that the exhaust is almost inaudible at cruise - makes it a relaxing cruising car, unlike some of the loud exhaust V8's I have driven which give you a headache in the first 10 minutes - even if you are stationary in traffic.

I have a friend with an 88 SE with an RMB. He was generous enough to give me a lift to meet some 928 buddies, a 200 mile round trip, the exhaust was simply too much for me, although the car sounded great from outside. Like Andrew I prefer the stock exhaust.

I had an RMB on my previous '89 and prefer the stock twin pipe exhaust
of the '89GT & '90 and up models better. If I could flip a switch from one to the other I would get an RMB for some occasions, but the twin-pipe is louder with much better sound then the S4 oval.......and that's just what I like.

I, too, had an RMB on my previous '89 S4, and I found that the loud drone got wearisome on long drives, although it sounded terrific whenever I drove under a bridge with the window down! I ended up selling it to Tony, of V1UHOH fame. On my present car, I have a GT twin pipe muffler, with catalytic "test-pipes", and I am very happy with the compromise: it's loud enough to be distinctive, without the irritant factor.

I know the owner and have driven in the car. Very nice, clean daily driver that he purchased about 5 years ago. 5-spd as well. Not many in the Louisville area.

I've had an RMB on a 1989 GT and have one my current GTS. becuase the mufflers in front of the transaxle are larger on the GTS, it is MUCH quiter than the GT. I actually prefer the sound of the GT and have considered putting the smaller mufflers on the GTS. Those of you that think the RMB is to loud might consider putting the GTS mufflers on your car ahead of the transaxle.

The smaller front resonators were I believe stock on 88 and up S4s (not sure when the switch out occurred in 88). My 87 S4 (with RMB) had the larger front resonators and it really bugged me when I would hear a later S4 equipped with a RMB..sounding so much nicer ;-). Finally had a chance to see the two different styles side by side at Prof Otts place. Since then I swapped out the larger 87 resonator for a set of smaller ones. A RMB coupled with the larger resonators just didn't have the "bark" of one with the smaller resonators...
The larger ones are obviously heavier...probably twice the wieght of the smaller ones...and when coupled with a X crossover..the sound is tolerable. A x crossover with the smaller resonators...well..lets just say that it lasted only half a year on my 87AT ......till I was literally deaf...way too much sound.....I swear I could resecuitate a dead man from the exhaust pulses....
My GT has a RMB coupled with the stock smaller resonators...nice ...the way the 928 should sound in my opinion...at idle and cruise...nice burble.....at WOT...you can hear what the engine is doing......
As a side note...the twin pipe rear muffler is also about half the weight of the stock S4 rear muffler (just by feel when removing..not actually weighing)...The later stlye twin pipe rear muffler and smaller resonators would make a nice simple upgrade for those with stock 87 S4 systems...
Porsche switched back to the larger resonators with the GTS...but Im not sure they are the same as the 87 larger resonators....
