Default HVAC issues

Got console and controls put back in my 82

hvac control head head seems to work, but the center flap won’t open, I get only heat from door vents (all the time), and when I turn the lower slide all the way to off (left) i get a chatter or clicking in the controller.

i believe Walt has a similar issue....the outside air sensor could be an issue, right? The hose is all mashed up in the front bumper....this could be the heat problem

i rebuilt the actuator while I had it out, the P.O. had disconnected and plugged the vacuum lines. There are 2 lines on the center actuator. I assume if these are reversed, it won’t open?

whats up with the “chatter” when I slide the lever to the left?

any help or ideas would be appreciated.

The center diaphragm controls 1/2 way and full open of the center vent. Reversing the orange and purple pipes would just open the vent fully when it should be half open and vice versa.

The chattering from the controller is from the relay getting pissy due to a bad connection in the wiring most likely. I had to replace the brown ground connection in the harness of my 81 with a larger spade terminal to get it to stop.

Jiggle the harness to see if the buzzing goes away. This also affected my diaphragms functioning correctly btw.

If the temp sensors fail you only have full hot and full cold, which works fine for me but maybe not others.

Ok, jiggled wires didn’t work. It only chatters when I move the lower slide full left. AC is off on low pressure switch, it is almost out of refrigerant, so I get no cool ATM....it’s on the list. Center flap doesn’t seem to open in any position of the sliders. Physically looking at the actuator, which hose goes where? Purple at top or bottom ( I know it’s inverted).

I do only get full heat, no matter where I set the sliders. I don’t *think* my heater valve is stuck open, but I have a new one to put in anyway, it’s on the short list.

Lastly, to replace the slider switches, do I need to remove the climate control head head? I am hoping that I dont have to take all this apart again, but I fear that is what needs to happen. I had no idea I would have issues with this unit, as it was in very good physical condition, I assumed all was good. Figures...

Thanks in advance!

Have you verified all of your vacuum pods are good? One leaky pod can leak enough vacuum to keep everything from working.

Removed connectors from the head unit, cleaned with deoxit. Reconnected, sprayed deoxit into the head unit through the sliders and cycled sliders back and forward, powered her up, relay no longer chatters.

Temperature slider seems to work, got real hot moving to the right, but still quite warm going left. I feel a definite change in temp tho.

The center flap flat still won’t open.

All pods were vacuum tested prior to reinstall. i took out the ambient sensor and found a spiders nest over it. Ohmed it out to get a base reading, cleaned with carb cleaner, and Then tested. Breathing on it makes the resistance change, so I am assuming the sensor is good. Reinstalled.

My 2 main issues now are that darn center flap and the horn (horn will probably end up with a thread of its own)
