Default Illumination wire

My replacement stereo has an illumination wire. This controls dimming functions of the radio in conjunction with the dash lights. Where do you guys in the know recommend I tap in? My first thought was either at the dimmer switch, or even easier, to the cigarette lighter bulb.

any better ideas?

Thanks!

Is this a wire that goes into the head unit, and triggers dimmer display lights when it sees power? That's what I think you are describing.

I hooked mine up to the ashtray/lighter bulb wire.

Yes, that’s the one! Perfect. I did away with my ashtray in my double din conversion, and thought the bulb/wire would be a good place to tap it.

Thank you for the quick reply, as I am in the throes of the wiring right now.
