Quickjack 3500 with a 928 - YES!
After having read a lot on Quickjacks I just ordered a Quickjack 3500. I realize that it will not work on the 928 out of the box because it is too short to reach both of the jack points, but my decision was based on the needs of the 2 other vehicles I work on. The model 5000 would be too long for them.
My 928 is under the 3500 lb limit of the Quickjack 3500 so what I am looking at is fabricating “lift bars” to place on the Quickjack to extend its reach to the 928 jack points. There was discussion of this a couple years ago before the longer 5000SLX model was introduced. Has anyone actually used a 3500 with a 928?
The lift bars would have to extend the Quickjack about 5 inches on each end. The max lift point spread on the 3500 is 50.5 in., the 928 lift points are 55 in on center, so say 59 in to cover both pads.
I would not be working under the car without a backup system of either wooden blocks or jack stands... or both.

I have the 7000SLX because of my Toyota Sequoia 5000+ pounds. It is longer than the 3500. In fact until yesterday I was working under a 928 with the 5000 I believe and it did not reach the lift points. The rubber blocks supplied worked on the rocker panel lips near the lift points. The plus is that the 5000 is more portable (not as heavy) to fit in an SUV. My 7000 is a 2 person lift operation. It is still one of the best tools in my garage.

How wide are the jackpoints on a Shark? You can also lift a vehicle by putting the Quickjacks across:

It seems Quickjack has the same idea...

They are going to produce an extension but only for the 5000 and 7000 models. Exactly what I am thinking about fabricating. I would love to have a look at their design.
Edit... found this video. The extension in the video is a lot different from the mockup in the above link.

BL5000SLX reaches the lift points on a 928 just fine. I’m using it for that. The 5000 does not reach far enough for my other sedans but I’ve never thought seriously about adding any kind of extenders to this system for which my life depends on.
of course; if Ranger develops an OEM extension....

I am thinking about buying a 5000. It seems like there is conflicting info here. Does it or does it not fit the 928 lift points? I would also use it for my 911 (997)

correct, it fits under my 928S just fine. No mods or caveats.
if you’ve been hauling around Ken’s liftbars all these years, the use of these will feel like a vacation. No offense intended, I’m hanging onto the liftbars just in case.

My 7000 fits the jack points with no problem. One of our guys has a 5000 and we were using it this past Sunday under a '79 and I saw it does not reach the jack points. Saw it for myself.

OK then, it looks like there could be 2 correct answers, and Mike gave me the clue - the lift points on the 928 changed at 86.5 (vin > 1000 last 4 digits). so perhaps cars with the earlier jack points, like my 78, the lift will not fit as is. Those with the later jackpoints, no problem. Thoughts?

My 928 has been up and down with my BL5000SLX many times since purchase last year. Jack lift points fit fine under 928 lift points.
Look, the min and max Quickjack lift point span is published for each Quickjack model spec. Compare the spec with the span between your 928’s lift points. That’s all you have to do. That’s how I selected my Quickjack model. Just trust your own research.
I should add that if you’ve been relying on floor jacks/jack stands/lift bars to elevate your Porsche; Quickjack will elevate the the car in 60 seconds, and lower it in 15 seconds. No labor. You’ll find much more incentive to elevate the car and conduct periodic checks.

Wasn't the SLX version an update that could fit a longer distance between jack points? I thought I remember that from an earlier thread on here...

OK, so I don't know if the jack points are shorter on the newer cars, but it seems pretty doubtful. On my '86.5 they're pretty close to as far apart as they can get.
I think my post above is correct. Here's what I remembered: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...roducts-3.html
About post #36 or #39, I forget, Bill Ball bought a "BL5000" which was the only 5000 lb Quickjack at the time, and found it to be a few inches too short. However, they were coming out with an "XL" model which would fit. I think the difference was something like 50.5" to 55".
In any case, go look at the Quickjack site: https://www.quickjack.com/ They now have an "SLX" and an "EXT." The SLX model has 60" reach, which should be plenty. The EXT has even more. Best advice was given above...measure, and read the spec.
