84 5 speed cranks but won't start
Ok so here's the story.
the car sat for 2 yrs during very slow tb/wp maintenance. After my 3rd mechanic "finished the job" I put fuel in it and fired her up only to discover the mechanic had not only neglected to put the spark plugs in like he was paid for. But he even left the rear 2 completely out and not capped. I immediately knew something was wrong. I replaced the plugs. And started her again. I discovered a new terrible noise. He also neglected to torque down the crank bolt so my crank pulley was no longer usable for to wear. I replaced the pulley with an earlier model pulley. And for the first time in two years I got to drive her. But only to the front yard due to the fact that there was a mysterious smoke coming from the engine bay. And it was very late. The next day I suspected the smoke was just debris or oil or cleaning product from sitting and all the work. So I went to start it and she wouldn't fire. The gas light was on so I put more gas in, but still just cranks. Any ideas?
tomorrow I'm going to check the fuel filter and pump.

what did the smoke smell like oil, fuel, coolant, or electrical?

So I turned it over a few times and pulled one of the spark plugs and it was dry. So this tells me I'm not getting fuel. I replaced the fuel filter and turned it over some more and I got a few sputters out of her. I tried using starting fluid but that only made it idle a few seconds. I wouldn't think that the fuel pump is dead because the engine sputtered a few times and I can't hear the pump whinning. I've tried pulling and replacing the pump relay. But still just cranks. It just baffles me how it ran fine a few days ago and how it wouldn't start after just pulling into the front yard.
