Default donor 5 speed trans

Hello everyone I finally installed the donor transaxle into my 82 euro. I worked hard on this for three days thinking all was going to be good and then this.I shift into reverse thinking ok great shift to first and no engagement. I get a feeling of it barely trying to engage then a slight grinding. I tried the other gears and bit seems that reverse second and fourth work fine no engagement to first third and fifth gears. When I took the top plate off of the transaxle it looks to be in very good shape although the shifter feels kind of different compared to the old trans. Where do I go from here I'm very frustrated.

Sounds like your shifter linkage is out of adjustment. on all the rearward positions you are not getting full engagement, hence the grinding etc. You may notice when the lever is in the forward positions (R,2,4) that it is more upright than normal and correspondingly the rearward positions(1,3,5) are much more angled and most likely the lever is hitting the rear of the opening for the shifter.

Hope that helps,

Dave

That makes sense to me the shifter feels not quite right and the torque tube came from the donor as well. I put a new ball cup on the torque tube is it difficult to adjust the linkage?

Thanks Dave after reading that thread I think I need to loosen the coupler and move the shift rod in allowing more travel forward when using first third and fifth gear. I will try this and get back with the results today.

Thanks for the tips guys. I adjusted the coupler and now have all gears. bI also have the ability to downshift without any grinding in any gear with this donor transaxle. I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is a different gear ratio in the euro models and the US models.
