Default What's in the cat?

I've been thinking about getting a pair of sport cats for the 928 and was wondering if the 928 has got cheramic cats as standard?

Can I ask something? What is the other option?

I thought all cats had a ceremic substrate.

Metal? Uh?

The catalist in the unit is a metal, like platinum or something, but the metal is extreamly expensive, so they don't want to use much of it. But you have to have a large surface area, because the catalsit only works on the surface.

Ceremics on the other hand are cheap, and heat won't destory them, unlike say polymers. Heat effects polymers.

So, as best I can figure, they take a cermeic substrate, and then coat it with a then layer of the metal. Not exactly, it's a symplification. You can't just coat the ceremic, I think.

anyways, you end up with a ceremic stuff covered in the catalist. This limits the amount of catalist needed, while at the same time, provides sufficent surface area to make sure the catalist does it's job.

Talking

Viribus,
No, no that's not so difficult! - Chose the upper 'Allgemeines' = 'General' that's open for all
Chose 'Information' = 'Information' and then 'Katalysatoren fur den 928' = 'Cat for 928' then you get the following:

In short that means:
The club support after-mounted cats - You can get two types, the ceramic and the Metal cats. Metal cat 1500 Euro (Normal 1750 Euro) and the Ceramic 948 Euro (Normal 1090 Euro)
For Metal-cat contact Claus Liphardt and for Ceramic Hans Peter Schneider -The special prices are only for members

It's a good thing you did all the work..

Because when I click the link, "Allgemeines" apperes no where on the screen. Instead I get a log in screen, about my only other option is to try and regester.

How can you have a "metal" cat? Am I just stupid?

That was a good 'find' - Here is also the explanation why the Germans install Metal cat in connection with chip tuning:

Quote:
.........In a normal automotive 400 cell/in 2 application, the frontal flow area in a ceramic monolith is 69% open while the metallic on has 91% open area ...........quote over

Last december, there was an interesteing article in the German 928 Club Magazine ' Power Ohne Ende' = 'Power Without End' Here they installed metal cat in connection with a chiptuning - See (Unfortunately that's German again):

OK, thats neat. A honny comb instead of a ceremic "spong". Cool.
