Hacker-Pschorr, that made me smile. I dozed off two week-ends ago while doing the oil pan, motor mounts and headers (still at it too). It was 80+ degrees and the shade under the car was hard to resist. Lost about 60-90 minutes of daylight. Plus the dismay that I fell asleep under a motor that is being supported from above in earthquake-prone So Cal. No oil spill, though.

No. Sorry. I’m the dumbest.

Like the big dumb ape I am, I pulled the entire chip carrier off the computer board, thinking that’s how you changed your microchips.
I’m surprised nobody pulled my card right then and there.

I allowed my Chevy loving buddies to convince me I needed to pull the engine for an LS swap. Haven't done the swap, but haven't driven the car in over a year either. Not sure where to go with my low compression 16V Euro now either.

Damn, you are in pickle! Reseal that engine while it's out and slide it back into the car gently. Maybe the car won't notice that you haven't driven it over a year and turn the 928 god's wrath on you for even considering changing engines in a ROW 86.

I have two words for you. Euro Hybrid

The only real difference between the fire breathing full S2 engine and yours is the pistons in your 4.7. Get a 5.0 bottom end and you'll have power normal S2 owners dream about.

The first time I touched the car, I was through the windshield washer system and when I went to remove the single 10mm nut with a ratchet on the fill spout, it slipped out of my hand and banged right into the fender. Now I have a nice chip to remind me to cover the fender no matter how simple the job.

Last spring was power bleeding brakes w/ my son (as in demonstration) '85 928 up on four stands all wheels removed, cracked open one rear bleeder, old fluid flowing then some bubbles, OK this is good I said.
Then the bubbles would not stop, WTF, looked and the canister was almost empty, well that's odd I'm sure I didn't let that much out, Looked around and BIG puddle under Master cylinder,
Hadn't done a bleed on a manual in awhile and forgot all about the BLUE HOSE!!
Yep power bleeder pressure popped it right off the Master, and sure enough the end was rotten too.

Nothing like cleaning up Fresh Brake fluid all over the garage floor

Forgot to pull out the oil pan with the old oil from under the car after an oil change and went for a test drive with the pan dragging under the car. For years you could clearly see the oil slick/trail on Google Earth.

Over the years I sold most of the cars in my signature for probably a total of 15% of their current value. WTF was I thinking?? The only thing worse than doing that is occasionally reviewing the math. ..

Plus countless driving and mechanical mistakes..with scars to remind me. I like to think we get better by doing..right?

"why did i do that????" ... Buying my first 928 or more specifically how I bought it. Yeah when they say there is a sucker born every minute, that was me. I was a total 'noob' buyer but was enamored by the look and sound. I asked all the wrong questions. all of the red flags staring at me were blissfully missed. But in the vein of making lemonade from lemons over the last 16 years...I learned so much about 928s, cars and most importantly met and developed great friendships from rennlist and local folks. The 928buckeyelandsharks car club would have never existed otherwise!

Why did I buy my first 928 from a cash only used car lot?. Well,... I didn't know what it was, or anything about it, other than it was a beautiful Porsche, a true '80s supercar.
Six years later, and over twice the purchase price in deferred maintenance issues, it's a very dependable daily driver, ...not every day, but I have put about 32K miles on it to date.
I love this car!
