Thought it might be of interest if not already discussed.

I'd say it is time to do this in reverse: http://www.mercuryracing.com/automotive/

Sadly, the marine 928 engine was high on cost, and low on power compared to unit already available. Without changing the cam, and spark profiles, just dropping a car engine with extra waterproofing into a boat is a sketchy plan. I'm doubting that the engine got any fuel, cam, ign profile changes, or if it did, they were very minor. The marine engine market for sport boats is pretty small, and Porsche trying to break into it with a V8 and tangle with Merc was doomed to failure. For more Porsche failure take a look at their disastrous attempt at aircraft engine fitting under the guise of the PFM (Porsche Flug Motor). Cost them millions, and almost killed Porsche.

I used to live in SoCal and had a boat which we used on the CO river in eastern CA. Lake Havasu was a bacchanal back then and we had a lot of fun. I once saw a 24' boat with an open back and a V12 Lamborghini engine in place. It looked fantastic! But - once I met him out on the water with my 22' Invader and a 454 Chebby pushing a jet drive, he couldn't keep up at all. Lotsa show, not much go. I wondered what he invested in getting that setup, and where he got the orig engine.

The one I saw was a car engine. I recognized the 4L with 6 webers. I'm sure the big engines would be better suited as they were designed with marine use, and not converted for car, or vice-versa. It could have come out of a damaged Espada, Islero, GT400, or even a Muira I guess.

I didn't think the 928 engine was an ideal candidate although I figured there might be some interest. I had a ride in a cigarette boat on Lake lucerne back in the 80's powered by two lambo V12's. Owner claimed 2000 HP back then but HP claims were always exaggerated. Fastest I ever went on water and had no interest in doing it again. He was pushing it a bit too hard but apparently had the means to get out of trouble.

Going fast on water is a whole lot different than on land that is for sure, a buddy had a nice BaJa we would run off Wildwood NJ, he still has a place down there but not that boat

This is not a Marine engine (could be) but its in the new Ford F150 Diesel, took the pic at the Detroit Auto show and had to do a double take when I saw that T Belt (looks just like our 928 belt!
I'm wondering what the maintenance intervals on the belt will be on the system, WP and Oil pump are not driven by it.

Curious as to what the mods were done to it compared to a road going version. Is it possible to remove all marine mods and put it back to the road? At $1500 for and S4 engine, that is pretty good.

I hadn't heard they had abandoned the 9.0L 1650hp Crate engine as I don't see it in the automotive section there anymore :-(

First install of 1650 in street car... http://www.hotrod.com/articles/the-f...turbo-9-0l-v8/

The 1650hp Race Car ...

Cheers,

Dave

If I had the room I'd buy that just for display purposes.

Point was, Lamborghini motors in marine use has been a thing since the 70's (unlike Porsche). I never said all were worth the time or effort

It may not be the fastest boat at the marina, it sure looks cool:

And some of them WERE the Fastest in the Marina !! Lambo Powered Offshore Race boats have done very well over the years and were used more than most people know.
Here are just a couple.
