Default Manual Gear box (MBZ)?

We all know that the auto box is MBZ sourced but is the 5 speed as well? The MBZ is a dog leg box and just wondering if Porsche used the same supplier. It would make sense if they had.

I do believe that is what was in my 1987 BMW 535 - it was the best gearbox I have ever driven with and the straight 6 engine was as smooth as silk.

Getrag may have made the parts, but the boxes were assembled by Porsche. https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ml#post9019832

OK so designed by Porsche, parts made by Getrag's ZWN subsidiary, and assembled by Porsche technicians, probably Turkish guest workers.

^^Porsche made the box entirely in house pre 85, syncros and all were their design. In 85 they went with a Borg Warner box built to their specs with Borg Warner designed syncros and gears.

Not sure about that one, either. The 85+ syncros were Borg-Warner, so I doubt that Getrag was assembling those either.

Blake, I don't think Porsche has ever built their own transmissions and I know for sure that 85 and up is a Borg Warner built box

My bad, mixed them up. I'll fix the original post for future reference.
