general quality of advice
I look at all the boards that come up through google for the vehicles I own. The only other forum that comes even close to the quality of information I find here is Lorens 996 site. There seem to be at least 3 other 928 sites that have some traffic, but they have considerably less than this site.
Not looking to disparage ANY 928 site, just pointing out that my experience is that the accuracy, depth and overall completeness of information and advice I have found here is second to none. Disclaimer: anytime I see a comment made by Walley, it does not matter where it is, it meets this standard.
I mention this because I have a Chevy truck with a wiring issue. I went to the 2 sites that pop up on google and read through at least 8 pages of post subjects (and the detail posts). I left feeling that there is way too much intellectual dishonesty going on at these sites for the information to be usefull. (Just to set the qualification bar: I have been a hobby mechanic almost all my life, and own a farm with a substantial collection of motorized equipment which I maintain. I can pass the righty-tighty, lefty-loosey test)
Why is it people are compelled to suggest answers to questions in instances when they have no friggin idea what they are talking about?
End of rant.

I think i've been fortunate in that my Ford Ranger 4x4 has good (but not quite Rennlist good) support at a site called therangerstation.com. They also cover Bronco II's and Exploders.

That definitely makes the Top-5 pet peeve list for me, and unfortunately, it happens right here on this board, too.
Pet peeve #1: people who drive in the left hand lane who are not passing anyone!

There is one car I've owned that has better tech advice IMHO and more readily available. The Porsche 944. But agreed, tech info on the 928 is very very good and available. And it is improving vastly in development areas such as computer; engine; stroking; supercharging and turbocharging; as well as application info such as racing and suspension.

That makes two of us. Let's start a separate club dedicated to elimination of left lane hogs. It took me a long time to figure out why Smokey doesn't enforce the left lane passing only rule: Smokey doesn't want the traffic to flow safely or smoothly. Simple.

I was driving the 928 with the wife in the car last week and i was zipping down the highway and came upon a slow mover in the left lane, and for what ever impulsive reason i may have done it, I flashed lights at the guy. He moved right over and then my wife ripped into me for doing it. I dont normally flash lights at people, but who would be the bigger ahole. Me for flashing or the driver doing the squatting?

Obviously the wifey has been taught like all the other dumb bastards in the USA (no offense to your lovely wife John), that flashing your headlights is the universal sign for "I would like to pass". No one should take offense to it.

John:
Not to encourage marital strife, but........why do you think Porsches have flasher capacity?? Frequently, coming upon an intersection, I flash my lights even in daylight for whoever I don't see might be thinking about turning out. I flash always if someone is in the left lane. If I am closing on them at a relatively higher rate of speed I begin flashing at a distance, particularly if I am coming up behind them on the open road and intend to pass, as I want them to know I am coming. We need to evolve past the desire to remain infants laying in our cribs. The flashers are there for a purpose. Good for you. Nothing personal against your wife, who may change her mind if given time to consider the alternative. If you walk in front of someone or temporarily need to pass by them, don't you say "excuse me"? It is only common courtesy and is appreciated by most everyone. And particularly if you didn't realize someone is being blocked by you, rather than the person pushing you out of the way in the hallway abruptly. What's the difference on the road?? Flashing is also less abrupt than sounding your horn, which may or may not be heard from a distance.
Evolution, yes.

It's like that move "Shallow Hal", where the guy falls in love with this rather large girl because to him, she looks like Gweneth Paltrow.
People have called the 928 the "ugly stepchild" of Porsche since it came out. But to us, it's Gweneth. And if you got Gwen. you want to keep her. Although I like to think of mine as either Hallie Barry or Beyonce.
And as a side note, how many of us put as much effort into other things as we do our 928s?????? just asking...- Ruf

I think that the quality of this forum reflects the type of person who buys and maintains a 928. The only list that I've been on that compares to this forum is the Yahoo Turboesprit group. I think that the reason that both of these lists are of such high quality is because these cars are usually owned by enthusiasts. They are both underappreciated and imho undervalued. People who buy these cars on a whim don't usually have the desire or patience to keep them when something goes wrong, and they can't find a mechanic or find out that their $10,000 bargain suddenly needs $3000 worth of work. The 928 and Esprit communities are also very small, and we rely heavily on each other and the few vendors who support these cars for information. I know that I probably would not have purchased either of these cars if it wasn't for these internet forums because these cars don't have a very good reputation with those who aren't in the know!

No offsense taken, John. My wife scares the **** outta me sometimes when she drives us around in her Jeep Cherokee. She drives way to SLOW on the highway and way too FAST off it. Especially in parking lots. I'm pretty much the opposite. At least i got her to stop with the left lane squatting.
