89 GT error code
I just went to start my GT and it turned over and over, and stumbed a little, but wouldn't start. Then I tried it again, but just as I was turning the key, I saw some kind of error code. I didn't see it as it was rather quick, but I did make out #4. Of course I'm panic stricken as this occurs. But I continued cranking and eventually it started. After running rough for a few seconds it perked right up.
My guess is that I somehow slightly flooded the engine.
Does anyone know what that #4 meant?
If it means I fried my LH brain, well, you can just omit your reply, as I would rather not hear that. Hahaha

A low battery or if for what ever reason the engine is turning over slow on start up, you will get a weird warning on the dash I have yet to find an explanation for.
Charge your battery or look at why your draging on start up (if thats the case)!
"....and stumbed a little..."
Could be a simple brain fart
In any case, as long as it starts normal now without any weird code, don't worry about it. I as well as others have seen this too!

Gregg;
It takes substantially more than the normal 12V to start an S4. My 89 GT did the same thing until I got a new battery. Yours may not have enough reserve capacity to pop it awake.
I found 3 drains on my electrical system leading to my battery's demise.
a. seat heater on pass side.
b. rear cargo light
c. something else but I forget.
Do a DVM test and see if there is any draw. And the usual fatherly advice...clean all ground contacts at every oil change.

Scott, you've got seat heaters?! Wow, whatever am I missing out on? It's more than I can handle. Woe is me.
It zips to life. I think it just freaked out that I was changing the ride height.
BTW, I went on my first tight country road drive yesterday. Oh brother, this car is outrageous. Why do they call it a GT? I'm not big on highway driving, and was underwhelmed when I first got the car. This thing is a blast.

To my knowledge Seat heaters only came standard in the 89 s4, not the GT. They may have been an option on the GT though.
I have had the same low voltage problem with bad batteries over the dozen years I have owned Gretch. It is always the same thing, low voltage. I mentioned the error code last spring and Walley said that is was "low bvoltage". And Gregg, most of the time the problem was the battery needed to be changed out, no amount of charging a bad battery matters. (I suppose it is like putting lipstick on a pig, It does not help, and......... it irritates the pig)
