That's my counsel. Read the sticky thread a couple of times and read this forum daily for six months and squirrel away some $$$ before you start shopping. At the end of that time you'll be aware of a lot of 928 issues, good and bad, and if you get lucky a really good car will pop up for sale.

Bit oxymoronic, isn't it!

The 924 was designed by Porsche for Volkswagen utilizing existing parts from the Volkswagen part bin. The design was bought back by Porsche and the 924 was build by Volkswagen (Neckarsulm) for Porsche.

The 928 was a clean-sheet design. The 928 was build by Porsche (Zuffenhausen). No Volkswagen parts or Volkswagen factory were used in the manufacture of the 928. Very few parts are interchangeable.

Yes, the 2.5 liter motor of the 944 was designed by Porsche, basically by using a half of the 5.0 liter 928 motor.
