My GTS has rub strips

LOL. I didn't write that they didn't exist, just that I'd never seen one (with my own eyes.)

Want to break that down by 5-speed vs. Auto?

And, what about S4/GT percentages?

Every GTS I work on is a 5-speed and none have rub strips.

Most - perhaps all (hard to remember) - S4/GTs I work on have rub strips.

My '89GT had rub strips but they were removed en passant with a PO's repaint.

The '89 GT that Greg and I are doing right now is being de-rubstripped, but I de-adhesed them so they _could_ be added back if someone so decided. (De-adhesing is a giant PITA....)

Of the 243 US market GTS automatics, 105, or 43% had rubstrips. Of the 163 5-speeds, 60, or 37% had rubstrips

Will work on the GTs, IIRC nearly all the '89s had rubstrips.

I though there were a 170 5 speeds imported? Only 163? Mine is one of the non rub strip 5 speeds.

163 is all there is in the PET database, and 163+243 = 406, which jibes with the oft-quoted total of 406 U.S. market GTSs.

RE: Rubstrips on the US/Canada market '89-91 GTs:

112/115 '89GTs had rubstrips - 97.4%
142 / 145 '90GTs had rubstrips- 97.9%
143/145 91 GT's had rubstrips - 98.6%

So overall 397/405, or 98%.

Ah hah! So, the voices in my head are correct: I don’t need to review Bayes’ Rule.

Same here, reason why I had to look!

I never noticed until now the short "stub" strip on the rear fender. Thankfully they did that and not bend the strip around the flared fender.

Me too. The "stub strip" is a funny thing.

The various pictures confirm - for me - what has been my opinion for a long time:
- S4/GTs look better with rub strips.
- GTSs look better without rub strips.

Furthermore, the statistics confirm that a surprised reaction to a GTS w/o rub strips is not warranted and that an S4/GT without rub strips may have had them removed.

Wow, I have one of the 3 90 GTs that came from the factory without rubstrips! I guess I can use that as a real draw, if I ever would sell...

I disagree. I think generally both look better without rubstrips. If you have to have rubstrips, I do think they look better, though, on an S4/GT than on a GTS. The stub doesn't look right at all...

I'm guessing some dealers added rub strips. They weren't on my car's option code list, yet they were there when I bought it. I had them removed a couple years ago. If someone's in the market for a set (to include the stub ) let me know as they will never go back on my car.

Likely you have the only Red '90 GT w/o strips? You may have the only Red GT of any year w/o rub strips. A true 1 of 1!
