928 GT selected as "Best Porsche in Show" at RADWood 2 ???
More good news for the 928 model. I was rather surprised last Saturday afternoon in Anaheim, Ca when my 91 928 GT was announced as the "Best Porsche in Show" at the closing awards ceremony and I was handed a trophy by an Internet Brands/Rennlist representative. Why was I surprised? Because there were probably 30 beautiful and valuable 80's and 90's Porsche's there including a 89 Speedster, a bunch of 930's, 911 Turbo Cab's, C2's 944's and 993's, many of which I would have traded my 2017 Werks Reunion (transaxle class) winning 928 for right on the spot, mainly because of the difference in value.
RADWood is the second annual car show for any car or truck that was manufactured between 1980 and 1999 only. It brought out over 300 cars and was a pretty cool event. No "excuse me, could you please pass the Gray Poupon" guys here. They encouraged attendees and show car owners to dress in 80's or 90's attire and consider "era" relative props. There was more than one Don Johnson white linen outfit, briefcase phone, there were mirrors on the roofs of a couple cars with a rolled bill or straw and talcum powder or baking soda carved out into lines. I felt a numbing throat drip just looking at it...
So, back to the point, did the 928 win because in a way it better represented the excesses of 80's and portions of the 90's than a 911? Maybe. So I asked the Rennlist guy how he picked my 928 and he said "It's a super clean example and I really like the car". (I felt like asking him if he needed to be escorted to his car after the show for his own safety). By the way, he doesn't own a 928, he owns a very early 911.
Whatever the reason, I was very happy and I do think there is good news in this for all in the 928 community.
PS- check out the trophies, they are Nintendo cartridges mounted on a plaque..

You shouldn't be surprised Charlie, your GT is a sweet car. I was drooling over it at Werks this year. Congratulations!

Its actually rather high miles at 170,000. I have owned it for less than a year but it has service records from day 1. It definitely spent its entire life indoors. It was owned by a few different PCA car obsessed enthusiasts. The fact that it has GP white paint, Black interior and vinyl trim (rather than full leather which tightens and pulls back) allows it age gracefully. The PCA judges at Werks Reunion confirmed what I was told. which is that it is the original paint. I had the original wheels repainted.

That is totally rad dude! I love seeing our cars getting accolades like this. I like that the 911 guys are giving it props. Before I bought my 928 I read a lot about how the "air cooled" and 911 guys didn't considered anything but the 911 as a real Porsche. However I get a lot of thumbs up from dudes in 911s when I drive mine. I think that sentiment died a long time ago and that Porsche guys generally appreciate all Porsches.

Nice, way to represent! I agree with Nate too. From what I see and experience, the 911 guys long ago stopped looking down on the 928s. I find most are really interested in the car, and want to know more.
