Default engine reinstall - flexplate question

Hi guys, Currently reinstalling my engine after a rebuild. In my infinite wisedom, I did not mark the flex plate to the flywheel and starter ring before removing. I can confirm that the flywheel is correctly positioned as I was extremely careful when I replaced the rear main seal. I am wondering if it is necessary to have the flexplate is the exact same position as it was before I removed the engine? All that comes to mind is that it would be important for alignment with the gearbox.

FYI: The picture above is taken from a manual online. As you can see the white paint marks the current position before removal.

Wondering why it is necessary to unbolt the Flex-plate from the pinch-bolt assembly?
I just unbolt the Flex-plate from the Flywheel and push it all back towards the rear of the car.
