Default Belly Pan

I was told the 85 did not come with a belly pan but looking under the car it looks like having one would be a good idea to have one. Can one be adapted to this car without interfering with anything. From my glance it did not look like it would disturb anything.

You can buy one on ebay (the stock one was made of plastic) or get a metal replacement from one of the big three (around $200).

Go to thoe DEVEK website at www.devek.net, and look at their belly pan solution for the pre-S4 models. Maybe that's what you have in mind...

The factory belly pan is actually a fiber composite, not plastic.

Also, the factory pan comes with motor mount vent ducting installed, while the aluminum aftermarket pans require installing them from the old belly pan.

Motor mount vent ducting??? Is there a problem if the motor mounts get too hot? Never understood this......

Don't know about the exact material, but it's pretty crap. And I have seen metal pans with the proper air vents - don't remember who made those, but I am sure the manufacturer will raise their hand

I have the new 928 International aluminum undertray for my '89 and it is a really good quality item. I haven't put it on yet, that's something to add to my winter list of things to do. The pan did not come with the ducting for the vents, just the openings for the ducting. The old ones were sheared off of my old undertray (perhaps that's why the owner of that Boxster dropped back so quickly...). I was told that I really don't need the ducting.
