Clutch Slave Cylinder Rebuild
I pullled my clutch slave last night and thoroughly cleaned and rebuilt it with a new seal kit in about an hour. Spent the next 3 hours trying to get the piston back in. No matter how carefully I push and tuck, the seal ends up bulging and blocking my progress. For my last try I put the piston and seal in the freezer for a couple of hours and tried again. I have left it in the freezer with a zip tie around it to try to shrink it and will have at it when I return from Thansgiving but does anyone have any tips for getting that thing back in? I’m betting there is some slick little tool that a hydraulic shop would have like a piston ring compressor, do I need a tool? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

it sounds like you have the wrong seal, the correct seal will slide easily into the bore,
as the bore has a bevel to assist its insertion
Best to use ATE gold fluid

do you have the part number for the seal kit?

I’ve left town at this point so I’ll post the part number when I get back. I ordered it from Roger and it would be unlike him to fill an order with an incorrect part. The seal looks pretty much the same as the one I took off, it just puffs out on the split side (cylinder side) presumably because its new. I’ll check on it when I get back tho!

Looks like I received part # 928 116 901 00, which cross-referenced definitely looks like its for 83-86. I've contacted Roger to see if a later kit exists but I have not seen one anywhere else. So a couple of questions:
1. I'm assuming this is another "in-tank fuel pump" situation where the price of a part goes from normal (porsche-normal) to obscene because we're down to a single manufacturer?
2. Is the 83-86 clutch slave interchangeable?
3. If it is not directly interchangeable, and the difference is rod length, could the rod off my current clutch slave be swapped over to a new 83-86 body?
4. If none of the above, does anyone have a recommendation other than spending $500 on a $50 part? Is there a rebuilder out there that people are using?
I had planned on hitting a couple of hydraulic shops around the area to see if someone could get me a seal that fits my slave but I ran out of time today.
Thank You!

it would help if you could post pictures of the old and new pistons and seals maybe the new seal has a smaller ID and this is pressing the seal outwards?

In this thread two people have said it does not fit - could be a glitch on Porsche's side of course.
Shame it does not fit as the other stock alternative is to replace with the $489 slave.
I sent Marc an 86 slave to see if that can be made to work with the later rod.
