Clunk when shifting also on acceleration and deccel. Now it won't shift
Hi there guys,
got a problem which just went completely bad. My 79' 928 5spd had a clunk since I bought it and got it back on the road. It happened when shifting, accelerating and decelerating. I looked at it and noticed a good amount of play in the rear of the driveshaft clamp, but the play seemed mainly in the side of the input, going into the trans. I replaced the CVs on the side that had the most play, they weren't awful, but had some pitting, didn't think this would do it as it felt more like 'drivetrain' play.
Well the other day driving it it all went to heck, I shifted from 4th to 5th and something spun and left me without being able to shift. Got it towed to the shop but haven't been able to get to looking at it yet.
So here I am to hopefully get some help or advice on what it may be, from the great people of this forum.
Thanks so much in advance. Cheers!

Shifter can go into all gears but engine/trans spin freely, also it makes a higher pitch whirring sound, when pressing on the gas. But it makes this sound in neutral or 'in gear'...

Emergency brake on.
Start car and put into 1st gear.
Look at holes in torque tube shaft/transmission/axles, etc.
Whatever is spinning and is attached (or should be attached) to something that is not spinning is your problem.
