Fuel Line preventative maintenance question
Hi All
A lot has been written about the fuel lines and engine fires.
While I recognize it would be best to replace all of them in my car, are there any in particular (assuming all are original) that are most prone to failure that could be considered a priority to replace in my 1991 car?
Thanks!
John

I don't know much about the fuel lines in the engine compartment if your 1891 car but don't forget the fuel return line on top of the tank and the pressure line from under the tank to the filter.

I am also not familiar with the later cars fuel lines, but the issue is with the flexible or rubber flammable fluid lines. Overtime they can harden and develop cracks. The little injector hoses on my car visually looked ok but when I went to change them they would snap like pretzels. The rubber in the engine compartment is exposed to higher heats and more thermals cycles and therefore will likely have issues before the hoses near the fuel tank. Also don't forget to change out the power steering lines, especially the high pressure feed line line. This runs over top of the exhaust header and their failure has caused a few fires as well.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE RUBBER HOSE AND CLAMPS!
The car is safer with the original hoses than with rubber hose and clamps.
If the car has over 100,000 miles, replace the pressure hose in b the rear than goes from the filter to the chassis. Check the short rubber hose from the in tank.pump to the main pump (as well as the function of the in tank pump.)
As mentioned above, if you have no history on the power steering pressure hose....replace it asap. I had two clients that burned their cars, this past year, from this hose bursting. Change the power steering fluid (Dextron) to a synthetic to increase the flash point.
