The difference between all those 928s are so little that an average person would not notice it unless they regularly drive a 928. So justifying that an automatic transmission is more zhited for the "base model" 928 is better suited is not something I would agree with.

I have never driven an auto 928. Autos are just not my cup of tea. Although for the period these cars were built the 928 M is one of the easier cars to drive in traffic that I can think of. As much as I enjoy my 911's I dread sitting in traffic for any period of time.

I've shifted enough gears in my life. I wouldn't want a 928, with a stick. My 89 is supercharged, and is plenty quick, and very comfortable in or out of traffic.

With totally choked traffic in the Netherlands, an auto-box seems the way to go. But why do I hate it so much? Perhaps because of the laziness of the engine speed. And because of upshifting when I don't want it. It just takes away from the driving experience.

^^^ Re: the manual, I would not have to wonder why I hate it so much.
My stock S4 auto won't snap my neck at a stoplight, but it is plenty peppy. And when in traffic, which is almost always around here, the manual would be torture and would make for depressing daily driving.
To quote Roger, it's "fully equipped by Porsche," vs. "Do it yourself." But to each his own!

Figure of speech. No I don't drive drive it most days but I try to get it out a couple of times a week in the nice weather.
Unfortunately traffic around here is every day, all day.
