Newbie 16v engine pull questions
Happy Sunday, hope everybody's having a good day so far.
The 16 valve engine in my 1984 is ready to come out except for a couple last details. Specifically the engine is loose and all of the block to build housing bolts of been removed, I've also remove the clutch bolts.
Forgive the question as I do not have the workshop manual handy at this point, but is that enough to pull the engine up and out or do the pinch bolts both have to be removed? The fan and radiator etc. have all been removed so I have plenty of room to pull the engine forward if that makes a difference.
I think I remember seeing that the pinch bolts both have to be loosened, if so that is going to be a challenge because the one under the rubber Appears to be installed with several gallons of thread locker.

so the clutch is in? then yes, you will need to pull the pinch bolts on the intermediate shaft. which clutch bolts? if you are removing the clutch assembly attached to the motor, then having the radiator out is key. more room. so i think you are gold.

Good morning, thanks for the response.
The clutch is installed, I've removed the bolts that attach it to the flywheel.
The front pinch bolt is out (it was somewhat rusty), rear one does not want to turn at all.

you should also remove the two bolts at the trans mounts to rear cross member then slide the trans and TT back.
NOTE put a 2x4 block of wood under the front area of the TT and on the small chassis cross member so it stays more or less in position,.
The clutch should be removed from the assembly before the engine is removed.
The engine has to lift up about 5 inches before it comes forward.
NOTE forcing the engine up with the drive shaft stub shaft connected could bend the drive shaft, as it may not clear the back of the flywheel ,
you should pay attention to this.

Don’t forget to remove the small wire off the drivers side of the crossmember. It will, for a bit, prevent you from removing the engine.

Thanks for the help gentlemen. Used propane on the uncooperative pinch bolt and it came out.
Stan, I took your advice and moved the transmission back slightly and that made the difference.
