Default How do you remove collar from CIS injector???

Removing injectors today to replace rubber bushings... can't figure out how to get the old hardened rubber off the injectors. Is the collar threaded on? Injectors come loose from the manifold with no trouble, but I gotta replace this crappy rubber before putting them back.

I wish that google. com would work on all computers, and not just mine.

I used a section of pipe to hit the edge of the metal collar and tap it off the rubber seal. Then you can us it cut the seal with a razor knife.

That tool is useless for this application.

It is made to pull injectors that are secured in an engine with an O-ring....like CIS 911's had.

In this application, the injector must be pushed through the metal retaining piece, not pulled.

Gee, I hadn't thought of using google.

I managed to push 6 of them off of the collars, and remove the rubber by cutting with a blade, but the last 2 are refusing to move. I don't have any pipe the right diameter, and deep well sockets are too short. Sprayed them with wd40 for now. Off to get some vacuum line.

I used this exact tool for removing CIS on a Ferrari with the same collar, on a 79 928 with a shim under the bend in the tool, on a MB, and an old VW. CIS on 928 is no different than any other CIS injector on any other car. The tool is a PULLER. It goes under the threads and pulls the injector right out of the rubber bushing. It's easier if the threaded collar is a bit loose in the head, but it still works.

Yes, you can push the rubber bushing and injector out of the collar, but then you still have to pull the injector out of the bushing. The rubber bushing will not go over the 13mm hex head on the injector.

Sorry Doc, you are wrong, this time.

Yes, I know that this tool fits many CIS Injectors, I did not feel the need to list every single one I could think of....just used one example.

This does not/can not work on the 928 application, like I said!

The 928 injector has a large rubber piece that slides onto the injector from the bottom. The threaded portion the OP is trying to remove (to gain access to the rubber seals) slides over the injector from the top end. The threaded piece has a 12mm hex inside of it. The body of the injector is larger than the 12mm hex portion!

It is completely impossible to pull the injector out of this hex piece, no matter what tool you are using (with-in reason....anything can be broken.)

If you had four of those tools, all hooked to one corner injector, you could pull the engine out of the car....the injectors are absolutely not coming out by pulling.

When I first got my car and was having injector trouble, I pulled mine out. At the time I was not on Rennlist and did't know any better. I just used a pair of curved nose vise grips on the hex area on the injector and a pry bar. They popped right out. I must have done something wrong, i'll know better next time.

Got the last 2 off, carefully tapped the collars off with a dull flat blade screwdriver and a light hammer. The others were able to be pressed off by hand. When I started the thread, I didn't know how they were assembled to know how to take them apart.

As always thanks for the replies. Got most of the vacuum lines replaced today and the plenum stripped and cleaned. Injectors are soaking in Chem tool for the night. Alternator is still at the shop, Wheels will be stripped of the old tires tomorrow so I can get them powder coated and ready for new tires.

I just removed 16 of them. I used a small block of wood, a rag, then put the injector on the rag, nozzle down, a deep well socket over the threads, where it contacted the collar, and tapped the socket with a “plastic” headed machinists hammer. The deep well goes down far enough that the “bead” was broken, and I could pull the rubber and collar off. I then used a screwdriver to push the rubber out of the collar.

The key here was presoaking the injectors with collars/ rubbers for 2 days in a bucket of carb parts cleaner. Got it at Advance Auto for 23$, and it has a basket inside.

3 of them were damaged, and I had to dremel them off. The rest were near effortless.

Hi folks, does anyone know where to get the seals for these injectors? (82 928s)? As pictured in the start of this thread.
I also need 1 collar as well - one did not want to be removed from the inlet tract and the injector just twisted in it and munched the collar.
part numbers??
Have been googling like mad but nothing seems to be coming up.
thanks in advance
John

Call one of the 928 parts vendors (928s R Us, 928 International, 928 Specialists) and tell them what you need. A nice package of the correct bits will arrive in a few days.
