I just wanted to say something since this has been a long time project for Andy and for a different reason myself...

I chased every posibility for increased HP for many years... and had a "Near Complete" Vortec kit from a source that I will not repeat...
but after seeing Andy's prototype I knew right away that this would be the simplist, cheapest, and most straight forward way to get a massive increase in HP.

After the 1st test ride in Andy's 4 PSI Non intecooled Eaton I was sold... and sold the parts to my kit at a loss to fund the "Whipple" option positive displacement 928... needless to say after getting it on Andy's test mule the numbers as you have seen are impressive... being pinned to the back of the seat and holding on for dear life however is even more impressive...

Unfortunately my driving skills did not save my car so I will have to wait another day to try again... but for the rest of you who are proceding I do not think you will be disapointed.

Chris,
Thanks for the help! There is another thus far besides Steve_C that would like to participate. They tried to PM you but your box is full. I'll e-mail you. I am thinking there will be 4 maybe 5 total.

If anyone has ever wondered why no company has ever developed a supercharger for the 928 there is no mystery. I put together a spreadsheet tonight to estimate how much I have spent and will spend to get these 12 systems finished. My spending is over twice what I thought it was. Now throw in the 2000 hours I've spent over the last 16 months and one begins to see why with a very small target market it could never be proffitable. They would also have to get it CARB legal and who knows what that would cost. I estimate that it would cost a company over $100,000 to develop this project from scratch. That is with a billing rate of a conservative $50/hr @ 1000 hrs (1 person working 5.75 mos of 8 hr days including tools and working space). This also does not include getting it smog legal. Not crazy I guess considering I have buyer that used to have an OB that was turboed in the 80s, he was told the cost was $35,000. Ofcourse a rennlister paid about that ammount to get his car SCed recently too.

If anyone wants to go into business with me I'll gladly accept a 50% partnership. Just send me a check for$63442.50 half of what this project has cost so far if I billed for my time. We'll never make any money but hey, we can impress people by saying we own a company that makes superchargers for Porsches. That's totally worth $63,442.50

Sno,

In no way am I trying to marginalize your accomplishment, but I don't completely agree with you.

A company which builds the components en mass, and has numerous CARBed kits already on the market would not have worked as hard as you did. You were reinventing the wheel every step of the way, while they would be utilizing resources that they have at their disposal.

I'm sure that if there was a major brand name CARBed SC kit out there for $8K, there would be more than a few people waiting in line to write checks.

I agree that the target market might be too small to be "worth it" for them, but I don't think it would be as big of an investment for them as you think. Too bad the CARB certification process is so costly.

Anyway, keep up the good work; you deserve a resounding thank you from all the members of the community for your contributions!

Thanks Andy, you are doing what many shops could not do. I know we all appreciate your efforts as a pioneer.

Hi guys
I am relatively new to the list and totally new to this thread BUT, I am in the market for the 16v supercharger kit
Thought I would throw this in now and then go back read the last 6 pages of this thread
How far along is the 16v setup?
Any idea of more finalized prices?
THis is what my car needs for sure, it has solid well cared for engine, but my BMW 540i leaves it standing, sad really :=(

Andy, keep me apprised about the 86.5 progress. I'd like to get in on the whipple deal if it looks like the install will fly.

Thanks everyone. I'm in it for the glory

Prisby,
I'll be working on a 16v system real soon.

Brian,
The 86.5 install should be done by tomorrow. Pretty straightforward so far. I'll post when done.

Andy,

Your the man! Im glad to see theres someone left who isnt in it for the money. Hopefully you'll get alittle something for your effort, its only fair. You will certainly get the glory, at least for the majority of us Automatic 928 people. Im going through a divorce right now so Im going to have to put the SC kit on hold. Fortunately, its not a divorce from my 928!!

Warren,
thanks for the kind words. I was wondering what happened to you. Sorry to hear of your maritial strife. There will be a system for you in the future when you are past your troubled times.

Brian,
We started the 86.5 with the Jag/Eaton system fully running on it tonight. I am very, very pleased with the install. The system fit very clean and really opens up space under the hood. We are going to check Mike's T-belt tomorrow so by thursday or friday maybe we'll have it running good. Maybe we'll get a pic up tomorrow. If you want a system please let me know ASAP they are pretty much all accounted for but I can more than likely round up another.

Prisby,
I haven't really taken a lot of pics yet. There is one in the Feb issue of Grassroots Motorsports Racing magazine though as well as some text about mine and Jim Bailey's cars.

Andy,

I'm very interested. Have to start saving up for it. Will you be making another batch in a few months?

Thanks
