Seth,
To give a good comparison I will say my 87 with the whipple or roots is all together quieter alot quieter than a car w/ a RMB.
The roots sounds like a turboed car.
The whipple has a barely audible whine, and makes an indy car sound when you first open the throttle.
At idle or cruising neither are very detectable and you really can't hear either above 3500 rpms because the engine is louder.
One of the many reasons these are the only kind of superchargers to come OEM is the fact that they are very quiet.

Couple of quick questions.
1. My 83 is 230 Hp. With the Whipple and everything in how many total ponies would it have?
2. Can it even be done on my 83-86.5 models of sharks?
3. Can this go into any year shark?
4. Does this cause enormous stress on the engine it wasn't design for that could blow it?
5. Can you upload a wave file of your engine starting/ and reving up? I'd love to hear it!
Thanks for your hard work in this.

Andy,
custom made radiators are not bad in price. You can find some for under $600. a buddy of mine just did one in his comaro, i believe it was a c&r radiator company
Lou

ESPRITS4s,
I'll post a chart I already have w/ the whipple untuned, with the small intercooler at 7psi. I dont' have anything for the roots yet.
RedUFO.
Please understand that the systems discussed here are for 32V cars. That means '85 and up US, '87 and up ROW. As far as my systems go, there is not one single part that would be the same as for the 16V cars. The 16v system will be a whole new animal. The only thing I have so far for the 16V system is ideas. The only 16V kit made in the entire universe and Canada is for the '78+'79, it's a centrifugal and not of my creation.
If my car is just reved it dosen't sound any different. It only sounds a little different under load. The most notable difference is the sound of much more gas escaping from the exhaust. howling and hissing instead of just howling.
Lou,
Thanks for the info.

Gary,
This chart is with the whipple, small intercooler, and no tuning at all. Max rwhp is 349.3, max rwtq is 374.1. I have an automatic. So if you divide those numbers by .80 you will get an estimate of the crank HP, which equals 437 HP. When you compare this chart to other SCed cars note that some are running two times the boost.
It was nice to see a small palet of my manifolds coming from the heat treat facility today. I also watched them pour one.

Andy,
Thanks for posting the cost information.
What kind of tuning does an end user need to do after installation to get the best results in HP? How much do you think could be gained from proper tuning on your 7psi dyno numbers?
Your post before this one mentioned that the dyno done here is before tuning.

Warren,
I think that will depend on how tight your engine is, what exhaust you have, what year shark, what Sc you go with, what IC, what injectors, etc...
Maybe include what items your looking at using, and maybe Andy can get back with ballpark HP expected.

As far as getting the system running healthy and strong, you only need adjust the fuel pressure at atmospheric and rate of fuel pressure rise. This involves 2 screws, very simple. Basically I'll give a base line pressure to start with then using the reading from the A/F ratio meter in the car or on a dyno you'll make the simple adjustments.
As far as getting the highest possible potential from the system, well this is what professional tuners get paid to do.
How much do you think could be gained from proper tuning on your 7psi dyno numbers?
Thank you for your interest.

Andy,
How much more HP would the twin screw make with 11psi over the roots? Is the 2300AX the only option for this car, i noticed a bunch of different models on the whipple site. Are there any OEM cars that have a whipple that would work on the 928?
Im just looking around for a used source for the whipple.

Warren,
When the '03 Mustang Cobra has the original M112 replaced by the 2.2 liter twinscrew Autorotor unit the HP increases are substantial. With both units making 13 psi max, the difference is 417 hp compared to 489 hp.
The 2300AX is not the only Whipple that would work, though it is the best fit. The 1700AX would work but HP will be limited and cost difference is only about $200. The 3300AX will work but not too many people will be shooting for over 1000hp. I have had 2 "blank" manifolds made that can be machined to accept any blower. One of theose may be acounted for but I haven't heard back from my potential 3300AX system development associate on it, right Tony?
There are cars that come with twin-screws that probably have the same internals. For example the Mercedes CL55 AMG uses a 2.3 liter twin-screw. I'll bet it uses the same screw-lobes as the Whipple/Lysholm unit. It also has 10.5:1 CR and makes over 13PSI. I have seen some Whipples on e-bay but it is generally the whole kit and not cost effective considering you would have to buy the correct sized drive and pulley.
With the dyno chart I have posted another thing to consider is that I had just driven the car 40 miles without a by-pass valve to get to the dyno. This means the blower and engine were extremely hot decreasing efficency.
I'll get another dyno run soon, maybe next week.

Donald,
I hope to have some pictures of the finished product soon.
I just got an e-mail from Brian at www.canadiansuperchargers.com saying that they have 4 of the Jag/Eaton units instock for $575 each.
