spearco = more expensive, but much better at cooling. I would suggest it after seeing the difference on andy's car.

What is the difference between the two intercooler setups?
The lower priced one uses a thiner less expensive core. I was using it in the dyno run for the chart I have posted.

The higher priced one uses a thicker core and is more efficient at higher boost/hp because of this. The core is also more expensive.

Both use the same pump and radiator. The reservoir is the window washer tank.

Maybe I missed it in the previous discussions, but can you tell me how you got this setup California smog-certified so that you can drive it on the street?

Randy it is just as "legal" as stroker engines , modified cams , exhaust headers , Ott - X pipes , adjustable fuel pressure regulators , "chips" , after market injection , larger injectors , custom intake manifolds ..............some are just more obvious than others . Whether or not the emissions are clean or not is a moot point for all of the above , the fact is any modifications not "certified" with a CARB number are illegal for a street driven car in California and constitutes "tampering" with the required Federal emissions equipment . The fine for the above I believe starts at $5,000 ................. Some people return their car to "stock" once every two years for the required smog test , others are registered in states or counties which have no such test . Some find technicians who do the tests but seem to not SEE everything ............ But yes it is illegal as is speeding , driving after drinking just a little , betting in the office football pool , having tint on the side windows ................One of the virtues of the whipple style supercharger is that it does not SCREAM blower , if you keep the hood shut no one knows . The "turbo" style centrifugal snail blowers are frequently quite loud partially due to the high RPM they must spin and internal gear drives .

what? legal = no fun? yeah, just find yourself a friendly neighborhood smog guy and life will be good. Since andy's units will be powdercoated, there is a SLIGHT chance they could pass off as stock to the unknowing.

ANDY!! i'm getting bored of the 928s already... lets SUPERcharge this bad boy! (emphasis on the SUPER!)

Thanks Jim!

Randy,
I somehow I had the idea you were a lawyer that sometimes deals with such issues, and you have to ask me this question? If I am not mistaken this an international board and can be read and posted on from anywhere the WWW reaches. While the State of California would like to pass laws that govern the entire Universe, fortunately they do not. Much if not the vast majority of the US, area wise, is not governed by strict smog laws. For example these areas have no smog laws, Colorado's western slope, all of New Mexico outside of Albuquerque and most of Alabama even some places in CA. Maybe you could be helpful to all rennlisters and submit a map of such areas. Here is a link to a thread that will help 928ers understand how mods are governed by smog laws in their area of the universe.

Hey, it was an honest question, contrary to what some have alluded to after I asked it.

I see that you live in So Cal and wondered how you can drive your car on the street.

If the answer is that you remove the SC before your bi-annual smog check, then that's all you had to say.

@onebad928s
I was just referring to the fact that i'm starting to get used to the power of the 928. It is definately fun, but i'll be comfortable enough driving a 5spd that I can put andy's kit on.

Guys, believe it or not - andy's car is VERY streetable. It could be a daily driver with no problems at all. It only puts out power when you're on the throttle.... but it's no slouch, he can induce wheel spin @ will.
