Great 1986 5 speed 928 project for sale
Great 1986 5 speed 928 project for sale $3,500 (buyer pays shipping)
I purchased this car in March of 2015 from my EX girlfriend’s family who, as I understand, were the second owners. The car had 106,800 then and the title was listed as “not the actual millage”. I asked her dad about the millage and he thought it was when the car was titled in PA and it had over 100K they list it as not actual miles (not 100% sure). When I got the car it was in about the same shape as it is now with original paint and interior. The car was in need of maintenance and a lot of the wear items had not been kept up with. I have gone through every system in the car and everything is in proper working order.
I have the left windshield trim, user manual, most of the tools, spare, jack, and 2 keys. As you can see from the pictures the PO had an aftermarket alarm installed and removed the clock to add the LED indicators. I have removed the aftermarket alarm and the factory alarm works but I do not have the clock so I left the panel in place.
Below is a list of what I have done to the car in no particular order and definitely not all encompassing. Most recently I addressed the sagging engine mounts and resealed the engine including a 3 angle valve job and head gaskets while the engine was out of the car. The damage to the front bumper came a few weeks after completing the engine rebuild. Someone decided to turn left in front of me forcing me to take evasive action and a minor off road excursion. I was doing no more that 40MPH when the incident occurred. The front bumper cover, grill, chin spoiler, light and bumper shocks are the obvious damage. I hit a sign and ran over it so the bottom side is beat up a little bit. I drove the car home after the accident (about 25 miles) and the AC sill blows cold and the car does not overheat.
This car can be fixed for some used parts and a weekend or two. I have had my fun with the car and my expertise is mechanical repair so I am selling it. If you are interested please PM me and we can discuss any details you would like to know. I would prefer you to see and drive the car for yourself and I can send pictures of anything you like. I have it in the garage and I can have it up in the air for inspection.
Tires & Brakes: new OEM tires, refinished the wheels, new rotors & pads, fluid flush.
Heat AC: rebuilt AC compressor, replaced all O-rings, new expansion valve, filter dryer, heater valve, and recharged with 134. Repaired the head unit (relay) replaced all dampers, and new blower resistor. The vacuum system works well and functions as it should.
Fuel system: intake refresh, power coat the runners, replaced all hoses and vacuum parts, new fuel dampers, new regulator, rebuilt fuel hoses, new idle valve, fuel filter. Sent the injectors out for clean and flow test. Replaced all FI related sensors on the engine. Replace the fuel sending unit.
Cooling system: replaced all hoses, expansion tank, cap
Engine: water pump, timing belt, rollers, tensioner rebuild, valve job, head gaskets, timing chains, oil pan gasket & stud kit, engine mounts, valve cover gaskets, powder coat valve covers, (reseal engine).
Ignition: both caps & rotors, plugs, wires, both ignition modules, and coils.
Power steering: rebuilt the pump, new hoses, new canister, delrin rack bushings.
Clutch: replaced both friction disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, rebuilt throw out bearing, slave & master cylinder and new hydraulic hose.
Washer system: replaced all of the pumps, check valves, washer jets, and all of the hose except the lines to the headlight washers. Fixed the rusty metal issue with the fill neck and tank. Cleaned the system and even put the high intensity fluid in the front reservoir.
Misc: repaired cruise control module, new transmission mounts, all locks operate with one key, rebuilt the rear hatch locking mechanism. Overhauled the dash lights and replaced the ignition switch. Cleaned the electrical panel and replaced all of the fuses and relays. New hood pad. Wide band O2 sensor and gauge.
Issues I know of: the leather dash had shrunk and I cut the bad part off and it still looks presentable. The clock is missing. The rear speakers (in the hatch) are in need of rebuild and are currently out of the car. The driver’s seat moves backward but not forward (bad switch).

Thanks for the interest in the car. I think I priced it way too cheap
My first and second responders want the car. I will post an update once the details are known.

Gene does it have a salvage title?

Its a great deal for the amount of work you've done to it. The body and dash are fairly easy, but not necessarily inexpensive, fixes...

That was way too cheap for what it appeared to me anyway, to be. If the deal falls through put me on the (probably very long) list...
