Default RMB for OB

While I'm under the Cabrio changing a gas tank I decided to ditch the rusty aftermarket muffler and look for a stocker. I put together this quicky RMB from scraps that were on hand and at least for now it wont sound like a wheezing rusty muffler.

Very "Ricey" but its temporary

original exhaust are hard to come by but consider a 1986.5 rear muffler as they are easy to find and cheap. You will have to modify it

What is the mod? It looks like a some reworking of the inlet pipe? Are the brackets and outlets the same as early cars?

To be clear I have never done this but I’ve sold mufflers to a few that have.
The outlets are identical and the hangers I think are the same as 80-85

Find an 80-82 single inlet muffler (they're single inlet) and mate the inlet pipe of the Borla to it, so it bolts up to the 78-79 intermediate pipe.

Original '78 muffler on the right, '80-82 on the left. (The inlet from the '78 is gone, rusted out).

After grafting on the '78 inlet, and cutting off the rear bracket, to allow the use of the bolt-on '78 bracket:

I have in the works a twin tip, slant cut, resonator RMB for the 4-bolt flange early 928.
The goal is for a near, stock appearance, plug & play.
Should work very well with the stock Euro system (catless, w/premuffler). Questionable is how will it sound on a US with cats.
Project came out of necessity for a client car where the original 'pumpkin' is NLA, but we wanted a stock appearance.
Fast fact, there are 43 pieces for the '78 rear muffler assembly!
Prototype fitup is this week. Will follow-up with pics.

Happy with the results, for a prototype.

Hey Jim, looks good, that would be a good option for my 79 euro, one of these days....
