I think if you are looking for D90s for your car you need to look for the ones that are 7.5 front and 9 rear with 65 offset and 52, I think, respectively. I just bought a set, but they have the RDK sensors in them so they were kind of expensive. I think those sizes also came without the sensors and although they are hard to find, they would be the best for your S4.
Your next bet would be 7s and 9s or maybe 7s and 8s. But again I doubt that you will find the 7s with the desired 65 offset.
Just my thoughts.

Malcolm, if they are really reasonable you probably ought not to pass them up just because of that. I would probably be inclined to buy them to trade or flip or just hoard until they are worth twice as much if not quite yet. I still would not likely put them on my S4.

Malcolm,
Jerry has called it spot on.
What exactly are you hoping to achieve here - a stock appearance? What do you currently have on the S4 and why do you want to change it [if you do not mind me asking]?
The only reason I can think of for fitting a 205 section on the S4 front is if you are going for top speed. I have a feeling Porsche did this on the famous Holbert run- if you look carefully at that video the front wheels look silly skinny or so I thought. A 205 section would probably make the 928 a very good looking hockey puck on the first bend it hits.
If you must have a set of D90's do it proper at least or stick with the stock S4 wheels [or whatever you are running].

928s need more front wheel width not less. 6" is like a bicycle wheel....
928 D90s are 7.5"/9.0"

interesting I have them on my '88 S4, my front D90's measures 7" in width and they look perfect for me, they are written 6J on the inside.
I have 225/50/16 tires front and 245/45/16 on the rears.
I don't see any problem
regards
