We have our last SCCA Laguna Seca Race this coming weekend and its a little light as far as sign ups. great opportunity to come out and race ( ahem, PETTY!! )

i think there is BMW Racing group with USTCC to fill one of the run groups, but in the open class groups there is still room for more.

practice and qualify on Friday , race 1 on Saturday at around 12pm.

stop by around lunch on Saturday and say hello if you are in town

going to test out the new rear wheel bearing!

so we are on the 5th race now. Geba water pump stilll running strong with no leaks . all the horror stories of the pump are making me worry. i was talking to someone that said that the Geba pump is better than the laso.. it is made in germany too. true? what is the problem with the geba? also, keep in mind, i had a porsche factory pump go bad too. nothing is safe!!

Hi Rick.. no charge.. the race is free. bring a bike too if you can, easier to run around the paddock and maybe up to the corkscrew.

It would be great to see you out there.

Mark if squeezing your hose makes you feel better...go for it !! But Porsche made the 928 a self bleeding system unlike the 944 which IS FITTED WITH A BLEED SCREW.
You still running your belt tensioner without oil ?? the need for oil came up on another thread.

Jim, i thought we went over this.... i did a test last laguna race weekend and left some air in the system and it didnt overheat in the practice, but did in the pits.. when it cooled, i burped the system and during qualifying,it was much cooler running and in the pits ran normal temps even though i let it run for a little while to see if it would climb.

now, if it was self bleeding, the porsche factory folks wouldnt have mounted not 1, but 2 bleed fittings to the upper cooling manifolds on the Holbert car. (or would they just do that for fun?) anyway, the bottom of the reservoior is NOT the highest point. the top of the engine where the water exits the engine is.

as far as tensioner oil (or detensioner oil). no, there is residual oil in there, but just enough to keep rust from forming. its job is to help distribute heat to the tensioner from the block... without it, it takes longer, so i wait to do any redline activity until the entire engine and transmission is fully heat soaked. (oil at 180f min) what was the thread about ? what were the conclusions?

Mark -- Wife n I will be there with bikes -- we can enjoy some time in Monterey/Carmel AND a car race, what's not to like? :-P

You're in the 5th race... and first race about noon... so about what approximate time is the 5th race? If it's later in the afternoon we might just show up for your race!

Cheers
Rick

Here is what the factory mounted on the holbert car for bleeding. they must have also known about the issue. BUT, opening the overflow and squeezing repeatably all the air out of the lines works perfectly.

keep in mind, this is the highest part of the cooling system, NOT the bottom of the overflow container as some have said.
