excess oil consumption

The only way you can check for sure is to ask the factory how they rebuilt your engine.

rdourro1,
For what it's worth, I have a '91 GT that consumes more oil than I would feel as 'normal' for a low mileage engine.
After monitoring it, it turned out to be about 1 quart every 1,500 to 2,000 miles (not so bad, comparitively). That was with Syntec.
I now run Mobil 1, and the consumption has decreased. That's a whole other topic, however.
I've followed the topic of 'oil consumption' and saved posts in MSWord format over the past few years.
I have about 20 posts from various owners....mostly GTS. You're welcome to them, as they will give you a background as to who is experiencing what, and under what conditions.
Drop me an email if you want me to send the posts in a word file.

<----- ~5.4/GT cams (DEVEK built) and "NO OIL BURN" , I run 20/50 Royal Purple (made in TEXAS) and I drive it like I stole it most of the time :0.
BTW Marc T., call me some time. I have two oil samples I want to have tested and need to know where to send them.
rdourro1, are you the same person as the winning bidder on this fine GTS?

rdourro1,
I think better to make a compression and leak down test, that's a relatively cheap end efficient analyse of the engine.
As Anders said, most properly the oil is disappearing via the engine intake and burned in the engine, that's not healthy for the engine
The reason can be leaking valve gaskets or leaking piston rings, this make to mush overpressure in the crankcase and the oil-mist is pressed to the intake.
When the air gasoline mixture is 'polluted' with oil mist, the octane ratio will decrease and the engine will start knocking - OK, your model have the knocking sensors, these will 'hear' the knocking and delay the ignition timing, so you have no real danger as long as you not run the engine hard, but still, that's a negative development, and therefore better to find the reason and solve it.
Good luck with your nice car!

As stated before in this thread...GTS's burn oil due to the fact that the oil return holes in the piston are not drilled all the way through. Only fix is to rebuild engine and drill out holes.

Sounds like the factory rep was lying. Why produce the GTS in the first place if the plan was to discontinue the model? Why drill holes of any depth in the pistons, if the plan was not to have the holes drilled thru completely?

rdourro1,
I would suggest if you wish to follow some sound advice regarding your oil consumption I would follow up in Doug Hillary's post #2, 7 & 14.
Doug has asked some very logical and technical questions to identify the reason for your oil consumption problem.
I would also suggest that you look a Doug's previous posts to understand where he is coming from and his competent sound technical knowledge especially in the area of oils suitable for the 928s.
As explained in other posts there is a good technical reason for excessive oil consumption with some of the GTS's and there is a fix, if need be, however, before diving in and stripping down your engine and drilling the piston drain holes, my suggestion is to answer fully Doug's questions to get his advice before you throw buckets of $ at trying to solve at best a preceived problem.
Keep us informed of how you go.
