excess oil consumption

Hi,
what oil ( brand, type, viscosity ) do you use and how many MILES per quart? How do you really operate/drive the car - where and how?
These are important "know" issues in order to provide a meaningful answer

There is a GTS up here in the Pac NW that had the same issue. Apparently the oil rings on one or more pistons were "siezed" allowing the oil to pass. Was thought to have occured when it overheated at one point in its life..
Hope that isn't it....
Good luck finding out what it is..

Hi,
to get an accurate "fix" that data you supplied needs to be confirmed
Have you owned the car long and is this a sudden thing or not?
Porsche state that up to 1.5 litres/1000 kms is "acceptable"
Plaese confirm

Is there any difference in oil consumption if you keep the engine under 4500 rpm's?
What's your driving style like, my GT takes quite a bit of oil when I do high rpm runs. No problem as long as I'm aware of it I guess.

Pretty well known problem of GTS engines using some oil. Keep track of the mileage / oil usage for a time.......then see if it exceeds or is under the factory recommendations for oil usage.
Other then that if the car runs fine with no other problems you probably should just leave it alone and add oil when needed.

Hi,
there are other more qualified persons than I on here to offer advice
For me I would take a positive approach to establish the real situation
1 - I would do an oil and filter change using a known oil filter and oil
( I suggest a MANN filter and say a 15w-50 oil ) in a -10C to 40C environment
2 - Closely monitor what oil you ACTUALLY use. Keep the oil between low and full on the dipstick - only adding oil when the cold level is at the low mark. Note the oil used on a litres/1000kms basis and a litres oil/litres fuel used basis
Some engine flushing agents may help to free stuck rings/valve deposits and reduce deposits generally once you have determined if you actually do have an "out of spec." oil consumption problem
Many owners expect zero oil consumption - this is simply not an option with some engines!
I can advise you later of the most suitable flush treatment to use if you wish
