I was impressed that the bosses were cast into my S3 (to allow the drilling for 5 SS sheet metal screws) to allow easy installation of the GTS baffel. They may have been there since 1977; which makes me wonder why there are also bosses cast in to accommodate a baffel to the front of the oil pan. Did Porsche always know there was a need and are we installing the ultimate? The available baffel only controls the back 1/2 of the deep portion of the oil pan. Why do bosses exist to cover the front 1/2?

Steve the bosses were for the mesh Oil strainer used in 1977-82 engines no longer used after 1982 as I recall , it covered the entire area around the oil pickup . part # 928 107 147 10 .

It's too late now, I have installed the baffel. However if i live long enough to have to replace the oil pan gasket, I've found some very fine SS screen and will replace all arround the pickup with it.
