Sounds like you got a decent deal.

And a pretty decent car.

As you are well aware, the "little bitty" 4-cyl doesn't have a lot of power. Even with a 5-speed, it's far more "nimble" than "fast." You aren't beating anyone off a green light, but you can go through a roundabout without lifting...

At all.

I don't know how old your son is, but these are one of the very few "sporty" cars that I would consider appropriate for a young/new driver. You can still wrap it around a tree by taking corners too fast, but it handles really well, and will take corners a lot faster than you'd think (similar to a 928). Yet it doesn't have the power to get you into trouble the way a 928 or 'Vette or other powerful sports car can.

Have fun!

Thanks guys. Yes, I've driven 944s, 924s, 914s, etc... and they are a blast to drive, but are not considered to be FAST... I like to call them "Momentum Cars". I've been over to the 944 forum and they are just as helpful as the 928 enthusiasts... Must be a front engine thing Found out the source of the oil leak at the front of the cam tower is MOST LIKELY a hardened "O" ring behind the distributor that's mounted to the front of the cam tower (common problem) and that the very rough feeling at idle is MOST LIKELY collapsed motor mounts (again, very common). And, there are balance shaft "belts" in addition to the timing belt (I did not know that)... And, finally that "Clark's Garage" is the 944 Bible for DIY work... So I am off to the races to find that website and the online parts store! Let the wrenching begin!!
