Catching up on a little maintenance on the XX8 in the mechanical garage.

Have to get more tools and put the place together so I can work there this winter when the toys are off the road!

No Bar?

No Beer Fridge?

Geeeezzzzz!

And so it goes...

I am the opposite of Steve as far as driving this beauty goes. Only 9 miles in my 9 months of stewardship but lots of detail work like taking the interior out and cleaning, documenting and preservation work accomplished.

The rear quarters were missing the wheel house liners and they came in a couple of months ago.

The stereo head unit was replaced and I have a CD 2 going in as I wait to source a complete perfect Reno 2. Anyone?

Do you know if they were removed by the previous owner or if it was produced without them ?

MrLexse - According to the previous owner, the original wheelhouse liners deteriorated, started falling apart and the remaining sections were removed.

In your signature, you list an XX8. Congratulations! What serial number is it, and where is it from?

Lot's of good things going on with XX8, (aka the U-Boat):

1. Tons of preservation being done on all rubber, leather and seals.
2. Documentation, documentation, documentation...
3. Sourced the original radio (Reno 2).
4. Cleaning of the bottom of the car with a detail steam cleaner.
5. Oil pan gasket replacement with proper cork.
6. Replace motor mounts.
7. Replaced all wheelhouse liners with new and all hardware is proper and original.
8. Replace alternator air supply hoses.
9. Remove seats, carpets and perform "terminal cleaning" of interior.

Example of cleanup of the bottom of the oil pan and engine...

Hi Steve,

I miss it TOO, I certainly miss the FUN you and I have had in the U-Boat!! We certainly had some "Cheech and Chong" fun times in that thing!!

Way to go for using that 911 for it's designed purpose....DRIVING IT..... 363K, you are just a fracking ANIMAL!!!!

Missed you a lot at SITM this year, didn't feel quite right without you there.

Please don't be a stranger!

All my best,

Dave

Here is an opportunity to buy a very early (1987 MY) factory wide body:
https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-...06772-216-1125

Except the rear hatch (from Strosek certainly), this car is certainly original.
The red piping has faded, as usual.

But this was a very expensive car with all these Exclusive options!

928CS,

Thanks for the "heads up" on this car. I have seen this one before and it is quite unique. Love the CanCan Red interior and the phone setup. My 85S also has the faded piping that looks nearly white.

Should be interesting to figure out what it is worth and what it will take to buy and transport it...

Regards

Neat car Samuel! If I didn't have my GTS I would definitely buy the unique specimen

928 GT R and 911user. Yesterday at Sharks in Hell I talked to Steve a lot about the car. I did a little digging and found this car that was up for auction that had been brought over from Japan. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...-s4-exclusive/

Here is a screenshot of one of the comments, there were a lot. What the bidder thinks / knows? About the 928’s with the XX8 option.
BTW Steve, you will love this site. 😁

Yup, The U-Boat has been to "Hell and Back" again...

And, (Frosty - me) has the numbers right, (see post 62).

The Correct sales of XX8's were:

1 GT USA
16 GT's Germany
1 S4 Belgium
2 S4's South Africa
9 S4's Germany
50 S4's Japan
79 Total XX8's

Would love to know how many have survived???

(For the really detail oriented, the first 12 1992 GTS's had XX8 on their build sheet - but it was redundant...)

Here is a shot from the recent "Sharks in Hell" event in Hell, Michigan.

Enjoy!

Finally had a chance to read this all the way through..
Beautiful Car!!
Great job in cleaning, preserving, etc!! A fun and rewarding process for sure!!

I sold my 94 GTS a while back to a gent who said said he owned it at one time. I think before Steve it was Harold Sheff?
I'm guessing his name is somewhere in the original owner's manual. He's in St. Paul, MN.

I"m probably telling you a bunch of $##T you already know....
Regardless, have fun with her!!
