1991 928 GT XX8 Optioned Factory Widebody

Race Car
Before that, they were S4 and GT's with others rear flares. The option code was XC1 but only used for the 1989 MY.
7 Automatic S4's and 3 GT's were made. They were delivered in Germany, Japan and Sweden.
Here is one of the four Japanese car currently for sale in the UK:

I would guess that this is WP0ZZZ92ZKS842069.
Some 1987/1988 MY were also produced with the same flares, but without option code so it is nearly impossible to know how many were made.

That is good info... see post 29 of this thread as we covered the 3 - XC1 89 GT's and 7 XC1 optioned S4's there.
Since you are a bit of an expert on rarities, can you read this thread and weigh in on what sequence the 17 - XX8 optioned GT's were built? My car was built on October 8th of 1990 so it is a relatively early car. I am interested where it stands in relation the the 16 ROW GT's. Is it the first, fifth, tenth or last of the XX8's?
Also it has an option that remains unidentified (09981). Do you have any idea what that might be?
Thanks in advance for your efforts.
Dave

Without having production dates of the Euro cars with XX8, it's hard to know but the 1st 5 Euro VIN cars with XX8 are MS800191, 579, 664, 698, and 736. So your US model 91 GT should be close to the first, I guess (?)
For whatever reason, the 1st 9 1992 GTSs list the XX8 option, plus 3 more in the 2nd batch of 10 made. Someone in the options sticker room didn't get the memo.
09981 = Vehicle inspection to VRS for the installation of "Exclusive" parts

To: Rob Edwards,
I really appreciate this information! Loved the tidbit regarding the few early GTS's having the code remaining on the sticker, that is superb 928 Trivial Pursuit material!
Porsche decoding is quite the archeological project, I wonder how many years it will take me to place this car in the production run?
Great to find out what that 09981 code is because I also see it on a 1997 C4S I am looking at.
Thank you again for your help documenting this car!

To: davek9,
Great to hear from you! Sorry to have missed our Hell gathering the last couple of years. I will definitely have Hell on my schedule next summer. I'd also like to talk to you about a few projects that I am scheduling on the GT's.
Will send a PM or call you soon.
Regards,
Dave

To: Weissach,
These are the same flares that appeared on the GTS's in 1992 or 1993 depending on the market, including the gas door.
The other difference is 43 mm spacers on the rear D 90 wheels to fill out the wheel wells.
Enjoy!

Well yes, I do have sellers remorse again. But, already put 12,000 miles on my new ride. David, remember this shot from one of the Hell GTG's?

This is wild. I had no idea such a unicorn existed! I've always loved those rear GTS (as I thought of them) haunches...

I responded to a guy that had a Japanese XX8 S4 for sale. Attractive car that I considered buying but not original...

How does the old U-Boat look without the wing?

Steve,
Love the photos of the U-Boat on the beach and my silver outlaw as we drove back from Hell!
I also took the wing off of my silver outlaw GT for a while, but did not like it all that much. The early cars look fine without it, but I have "confirmation bias".
Leaves are nearly in full color this week so you better get yer butt over here to visit the U-Boat!
