1982 928 Weissach

Race Car
Nice Weissach! Like you a 928 was also my first Porsche. One suggestion. Drive it. A lot. You'll find that they are happier when regularly exercised. Just like any 30+ year old car, stuff will wear out and need fixing and or replacing annually. RL is the #1 place to come for 928 "how to" knowledge. Good luck!

Thanks for the warm welcome! When I bought it, I thought 'eh, I'll keep it really nice if I only drive occasionally. I figured if my wife's car was around ('12 Buick Verano) and she didn't need it, I'd use that.
Now I drive it every chance I get! It's an addictively fun car to drive, especially on these winding country roads outside of Memphis.

Great car & very worthy of preserving!
I owned a Weissach for a few years back around 1999-2002 in San Diego & drove it daily when I worked down on the U.S./Mexican border. It didn't have the numbered plaque, and I didn't keep track of the VIN, but it was a good car. I had to replace the aluminum ball-joints after one failed as I was pulling into a parking spot, minutes after a 90+mph blast down the 805 freeway. I cleaned up the top end of the motor & put new injectors & an alternator in, and it ran like a champ! The interior was average, with the seats having a prior "re-paint" that was starting to look bad (welting worn out completely). I replaced the carpet with OEM stuff. Automatic, aftermarket stereo, original rims, but no luggage.
It would be nice to find that one again, just to see how the old girl has been. Lots of good memories in that car! I can't remember who bought it, but it was sold in San Diego, around 2003. If this sounds familiar to anyone, let me know.

DeathrayLiotta, think I just bought your car down here in Texas.
Funny thing happened, I just won the car online and noticed the dash badge missing so I searched for replacements and was brought to your post where I realized it's the same car!!! I would love to chat with you about the car if pos. I hope you get this mess as I see you haven't posted on a year.
Hi, I'm new and I hope I'm in the right section of the forums for this!
I just purchased an auto trans 1982 928 Weissach Edition. It's my first Porsche. I've always been more of an aesthetic car admirer than a gearhead, but I aim to pick up some practical mechanical knowledge as I go. I've always loved the looks of the 928, and I jumped at the chance to grab an affordable one.
I'm the car's fourth owner, and I was lucky to score extensive maintenance records with the vehicle. It was purchased from a small dealership in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The owner of the dealership had purchased it for his son's 16th birthday, but the son decided he wanted a Corvette instead. His loss, my gain.
I paid about $5,700 for the car. It's in pretty solid shape overall (needs power steering fluid, the power lock control no longer works...otherwise just little cosmetic matters like a couple tears on the driver's seat and a little faded paint on the pop-up headlights, etc). Some of the gauges are a wee bit jumpy on bumps.
Of course only 202 Weissachs were made (according to the 928 Wiki, anyway). This one's #176 per the badge. Still with the original champagne-gold paint and original wheels, and the beautiful brown/beige leather interior (did not come with the original luggage set, unfortunately). It's at around 129K miles.
I live outside of Memphis, TN, about 2.5 hours from the Little Rock area, and the car drove like a dream the whole way back, no issues. I don't plan on taking it on long trips or anything; I really intend to baby it. There's a few Porsche shops with good reputations in the Memphis area, thankfully. We'll see how I fare.
Anyhow, I'm still learning all of this, but I thought I'd share with folks who knew a bit more than me. Pics attached. Thanks!

New 928 owner and first time Porsche owner.
Hello all,
I just picked up my first Porsche. I found this site while doing some research on the car before buying. Its my midlife crisis. Lol. My dream car for 38yrs, I finally got one. And I see that this car was talked about by a previous owner. I look forward to meeting y'all. I am looking at this car as a fun time and a project car. I want to bring it back to a newer time. I am in Fort Worth, believe I saw info on a top notch shop in Denton? I will send pics soon as I pic up and bring home.

Fort Worth? You could not be in a better place: Sean Ratts and Roger Tyson. Plus a DFW 928 group who have breakfast every month.

Congratulations!
Weissach's are the best.
Get it running well then have Robb Budd fix the interior, which is not too bad at all, but worth it bc you have 1 of only ~200 in existence (likely way less now).

Welcome. If you are in D/FW, then you are in the second best place in the country to own one of these.
The "Top Notch Shop in Denton" is Sean Ratts' 928 Docs. He's on here as "SeanR." If you want work done, plan ahead. The wait to get in is a testimony of his skills.
You can start a new thread about the car, even though this one is going, it's a new car to you and a fresh thread is certainly appropriate.
And, as is customary here...

Wisconsin Joe,
thank you sir. And where, may I ask, is the best place to be with this car? I will start a new thread as soon as I figure this medium out. I'm kinda stumbling thru it learning the sop as I go. Have not been a member on a site one this before.

Congrats on the Weissach!
Whoever swiped the unique numbered dash badge needs a good beating. If the car did time in an auction lot, the badge is now probably a "trophy" glued to the lid of some tweaker's tool box. What the hell goes through people's minds when they do stuff like that?
Still...look between the seats, in the cassette box and pull up the carpet (which just unsnaps).

19psi,
the badge is in the possession of the seller. He said it was in the glove box when he got it and he misplaced it when he was cleaning out the car. He assures me when he finds it he will get it to me. Apparently this guys a big 928 guy as he said he currently has 7 of these cars and knows the contacts for maintenance here in the dfw area. I wouldn't be surprised if y'all know him. I'll take him at his word and look forward to placing the badge back where it belongs in the future.
Thanks for the welcome.

You get Sean & 928 Docs and Roger & 928s R Us.
The D/FW group gets together on a regular basis. It's a fairly large collection of miscreants, weirdos and oddballs. But they have some pretty cool cars.
