1982 928 Weissach
Hi, I'm new and I hope I'm in the right section of the forums for this!
I just purchased an auto trans 1982 928 Weissach Edition. It's my first Porsche. I've always been more of an aesthetic car admirer than a gearhead, but I aim to pick up some practical mechanical knowledge as I go. I've always loved the looks of the 928, and I jumped at the chance to grab an affordable one.
I'm the car's fourth owner, and I was lucky to score extensive maintenance records with the vehicle. It was purchased from a small dealership in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The owner of the dealership had purchased it for his son's 16th birthday, but the son decided he wanted a Corvette instead. His loss, my gain.
I paid about $5,700 for the car. It's in pretty solid shape overall (needs power steering fluid, the power lock control no longer works...otherwise just little cosmetic matters like a couple tears on the driver's seat and a little faded paint on the pop-up headlights, etc). Some of the gauges are a wee bit jumpy on bumps.
Of course only 202 Weissachs were made (according to the 928 Wiki, anyway). This one's #176 per the badge. Still with the original champagne-gold paint and original wheels, and the beautiful brown/beige leather interior (did not come with the original luggage set, unfortunately). It's at around 129K miles.
I live outside of Memphis, TN, about 2.5 hours from the Little Rock area, and the car drove like a dream the whole way back, no issues. I don't plan on taking it on long trips or anything; I really intend to baby it. There's a few Porsche shops with good reputations in the Memphis area, thankfully. We'll see how I fare.
Anyhow, I'm still learning all of this, but I thought I'd share with folks who knew a bit more than me. Pics attached. Thanks!

Odd, but it's summer time here. Fall must come earlier down there, who'd of thunk...lol.
Anyhow...
Great looking example and yood luck with your new ride. Post some pictures of the interior and engine bay when you get a chance.
Brian.

Luggage sets can be purchased, but they are not cheap. However, would be a plus when you plan to sell in the future, so check with Roger at 928sRus and see if he has any left.

Welcome to the Weissach club.
About 219 were made but maybe one or two more still out there with higher number.

Congratulations! Awesome that you got the dash badge as they are often missing.
Looks like a fine example and worth what ever it will take to get it perfect. These cars are already going for big $$$ and they'll only go up.
Hopefully you can find the luggage, I have three suitcases but have been searching 6 years for a garment bag with no luck.

Welcome to the asylum. It looks like a nice car.
You won't find a friendlier or more knowledgeable group of wingnuts anywhere (at least with respect to this car).
If you are willing to make a bit of effort, any mechanical issue that comes up should be able to be addressed. All you have to do is ask nicely, follow the suggestions and say "thank you".
And you posted pics. Smart man. That way we won't tease you about it.
But we would like to see the interior and engine

Good looking car! Welcome to the club. It is not far from Memphis to the DFW metro area. If you are not happy with the 928 mechanics in the Memphis area, check out Sean Ratts here in Denton, TX. And try to buy your parts from the folks on this board instead of using Porsche dealers. It has been my experience that Porsche dealers are nearly useless when it comes to 928s. Worse, they are useless and overpriced!

Thanks for the kindhearted welcome, friends.
Finally was able to get the car registered today ($600! Thanks rural TN taxes) and drove it to and from work. Car of course is super fun to drive but also incredibly comfortable. I'm gonna have a lot of fun!
Passed a guy with an early-80s Celica and he gave me a little wave. Eighties sports-car fam gotta stick together, hah.
One question: can someone tell me where the cigarette lighter is hiding on this car? It'd be nice to be able to charge my phone...
Much thanks again! Y'all are good people.

Inside the ashtray.
Lots of people make their own power outlets, either standard "cigarette lighter" type or USB plugs.
It's kinda handy to have more than one.
