Default Exhaust Pipe Warpage

This thread is particularly focused on my x-pipe. Since my car is down with a dead battery, I figure not only would I give the EZK a lobotomy (Ken's S300 EZK chip), but also reinstall my x-pipe and save my factory cats for smog days to appease CARB.

However, when attempting reinstallation, I noticed that my x-pipe does not properly mate up to the exhaust, cats back. There is about 2mm deflection/deformity between the pipes, as if they 'spread' out. The x-pipe was sitting against a wall for about 4 years now. That's it.

Has anyone encountered this before? Rather than running to the exhaust shop for a fix, I figure I'd get a 400lb ratcheting tie-down to 'close' the distance to get the pipes to mate to the y-pipe. Yes, I know some of you are asking why I just mentioned y-pipe after x-pipe but that is how my setup is as I did a single exhaust conversion after the cats. Pic below shows how the y-pipe fit when I had the system all together. Now it won't even slip on.

So what's the problem? I've installed many exhaust systems and being off by only 2mm is as close to perfect as I'd ever hope for. Most are WAY off by comparison.

My RMB needed some "persuasion" to get properly lined up before I could tighten everything down.

When I had the 928 International RMB on, there were no installation issues. Everything was aligned perfectly. Only reason I can think of is OE exhaust components are high quality (even the RMB from 928 Intl) [stainless] versus aluminized steel with a thinner wall at an exhaust shop.

The ground clamp was when the exhaust was being built. As I had said before, the x-pipe is not on the car right now. I will try some persuasion tonight to get it all back together.

Looking forward to making some more noise again and loose tires all through first gear (always did that before putting the factory cats back on).

I read the thread title as Exhaust Pipe War Page.
I thought you might be battling some kind of exhaust issue. I guess I was right.

I was at war on how to set up my exhaust after my Flowmaster 10's rusted through. God I loved those things. However, the whole system itself was heavy. This new system is much lighter, sounds smoother and has a lot less drone. The huge advantage is not burning my face on a hot passenger muffler when reading the ATF reservoir and adding fluid.

Some "persuasion" was required when I re-fitted the exhaust towards the end of my torque tube/rear suspension adventure.

The same "persuasion" that was required when I first installed it, due to the rear "legs" of the x-pipe not being perfectly parallel.

I assumed this was normal, and it was certainly within the ability of the supplied clamps to accommodate - even when re-used.
