Thanks Tony
My 17" wheels are going on the red car and I have a set of D 90's that i'm putting on the grey '80 that you rode in. I need to sell it and I'm going to sell an 81 ( silver 5sp with the competition package)
Send all checks to Greg Brown

That 80 is a sweet ride and a perfect DD. Keep the "new again" 928 as a weekend/show car.02 T

Tony,
Do these work with phone dial rims? And, do you use the original lugnuts on the outer studs? Not wrapping my head around those bolt/studs they supply...l'm thinking you don't use them?
Thanks,
Brian.

The best set of spacers are the 951 331 611 02 spacers. They have real studs that are pressed in from the back side (instead of threaded in like all the aftermarket spacers), so you don't need to change the stock studs. They are 17.25mm thick. Pretty rare, since they only came on cars with the club sport 16" wheels. Pretty pricey, new, from Porsche. However, if you are using them on the rear, the fact that you don't have to remove the rear hubs, buy longer studs, and replace the rear wheel bearings make them look like a bargain. I generally have these in stock. H&R makes a set of spacers, like these, with the pressed in studs, which are 21mm (Part number 4295716)....usually a few millimeters too wide for 928 use.
Second best spacers are the 20mm thick factory spacers found on some of the early cars. Part number 477 501 701. These require a longer stud to be installed. These are common, used....I always have some. These spacers can be turned down thinner....although dialing them in perfectly takes some time.
After those options...aftermarket hub-centric spacers that require the studs to be changed are the next option. The best ones are marketed by H&R. I believe 15mm is as wide as they go (Part number 3095716), unless you use the bolt on version listed above.
My last choice would be aftermarket spacers that have a second set of screwed in studs that mount to the original studs. Studs screwed into low grade aluminum don't thrill me.
