Default Radio fit

MK GTS has a CR-1 radio. Will a CDR-220 be a slide in/plug in fit with NO changes. If not, what needs to be done.

You will need a harness adapter from Stefan at SW Stereo

There are two different versions of the CR-1 used in GTS's, they vary as to whether they use 8-pin ISO connectors for power and speaker outs, vs. individual 2-pin DIN plugs for the speaker outs. Preamp outputs are the same 8-pin DIN.

Stefan at SW (or Massoud at Creative here on the west coast, depending on your location) can build you an adapter for either configuration but you should pull the old radio 1st and figure out which one you have.

ISO: (note repaired power connections, and the preamp outs were modified to female RCA jacks...)

DIN:

OK, that is the electronics.

What about the clips that secure it to the dashboard?

Here's a link to a post of mine RE: swapping a CDR220 into a '90 GT that had a CD-2, which mounts identically to a CR-1. Pop the bezel off the CR-1 (carefully, they're hard to find...) center the pins in the frame, pull the CR-1 out, and slide in the CDR-220. It mounts in the CR-1's cage without modification or need for a bezel.

Where did you get the CDR-220? Was its display modified to work at the viewing angle of a 928?

It is coming out of a 996. If it needs adjustment, how or how much for Stephan to do it?

Jim Corenman can alter your display to make it readable in the 928. He is very reasonable(just as a general rule, and also what he charges), fast, and the alteration done to the radio only involves the faceplate.
