Talking

Follow the threads and you'll notice why I left the board, your right BPG I never added the £35,000 worth of machinery to the list but I never mentioned what I sold the black interior and non cracked dash for, the original wheels and torque tube and trasaxle, the rear screen, and when did I give you permission to use my pictures, I was just playing on the computer seing if I could do it, you underestimate your cars potential, my offer still stands, if I am around and you see me please do NOT try to talk to me as I'm not interested, but it's torque that wins races not TALK, you never mentioned how YOUR racing's going this season?????? or are you still an expert on everyone elses car. Again I'll be leaving this discussion alone in order for BPG to get yet again the last difinitive word on someone elses car and make statements that he will retract later, shame I was starting to like the board again. Bye bye little boy.

$51,025.30 USD in parts? Ok. That I can accept. And no, I'm not into racing as a pasttime, and haven't put that out into the forums at all. I did do Porsche DE events, but frankly I really don't have a car that I want to put onto the track. Maybe someday I'll purchase a chassis and build one up, or maybe I'll just be a guy in the stands watching the race and enjoying the show. Who knows?

Come on Adie, ya don't have to be an expert on YOUR car to know that didn't cost $700 - the pics show it. And I ripped off the pictures from you. So sue me. But I think you should be proud of that car, it's lovely.

Sigh, I guess you and me getting together for a hot dog ain't gonna happen huh?

Well, at least now that you've decided to bring up that $51,025.30 USD needed to make a 10 second V8 Porsche 924, I can be content in that. However, you know, for about $20,000 USD you can make a 10 second Grand National just by purchasing a good one for $8,000 USD and doing about $12,000 in engine work: Boring, cylinders, aggressive cam, bigger turbo, ignition, intake, and rear end. A buddy of mine at work races them on weekends and he's pretty confident in that estimate, and a buddy of mine that's a Chev/Buick freak/mechanic concurs with that estimate. And, anticipating your reply, I've never raced a Grand National, but I don't think I have to race one to know how much it'll cost to make one hit the mid 10's. And if ya really think about it, ya really should want to have a reasonable, good, solid estimate of the cost to do a conversion before ya go ahead and begin one, doncha think? That's all I'm doing here by speaking 'bout the conversion: Tryin' to make the estimate viable and realistic.

Remind me never to bring up that unfortunate mis-estimate of $700 USD for the 10 second Porsche, 924, it was a very mischievous thing for me to do. I'm going to my room now to spank myself for being so bad. Spank spank spank!

Ok, just for provocation reasons, the machinary I use is also used for many other jobs than just the race car, I just brought a new plug spanner, do I add that to the cost???? Oh and oil, petrol, the steam cleaner to wash it with, I can convert another car to V8 power for far less than the £500 but I also need MIG wire and TIG gas I should add that to, eletricity, part of the mortgage that make up garage space. Actually the cost is huge on your calculations, for the conversion I have put together a list that is available with pics and prices, step by step guige for the whole kit.
Let's add my engine up, 93.5mm rebore £0.00, I have a boring bar.
Heads flowed £0.00, I have a die grinder, valve seats replaced and recut £0.00 I use the mill. Valve stems machined down and honed £0.00 I used the laithe. All ali machine work done inhouse, engine mounts made from a car clamp that someone foolishly left on my 924 £0.00, Carb £50 swap meet, 93.5mm omega pistons £150, rods-standard items lightened to 396 grams a piece £0.00, Crank lightened and knife-edged on laithe £0.00, flywheel-Ali rep from original spun up on laithe and then further lightened material £30.00, Headers £95 SBC 1 5/8" cut and rewelded to fit rover block, Eletric water pump £50 Rocker covers £25 (coverecd in paint and crud but polished up well after 4-5 hours). Bellhousing £50 to hire inverter to weld ali, clutch and brake master cylinder's £23.50 each.
The point being I did all the work myself, you don't need a rep of my engine to run the times, it's not that powerful, it's just well worked, The original engine was £50 compleate and donated all is workings to the race one albeit lighter and stronger, the cam was a lux but I scavanged a blank one from TVR at no cost and had Piper regring it to my spec. The trans is a 944 one picked up at a breakers for £150 and also got teh rad and cooling system to. The spec might be long but the cost is low, I sold the other bits and made a profit. And if you look carefully at the manifold you'll notice it's not even, one side was chopped off and reclaimed from a scrap bin, had to machine a mew piece and weld it back together but for a freebe it works, I had to drive to get the parts so add the cost of a porsche to the list. It looks big bucks but its real low cost, for me my labour come free, for you, you don't earn enough money.
Back to topic, I'd still take the carrera, in standard form it'll take the panties off the rest.
If you want to discuss a non Porsche race car then do it off topic, don't bore everyone with your opinions on other peoples car's, especially if you don't have the ability to do it yourself. I took the rebuke from Perry as he has the gumption to do it all, win or loose you gotta respect that, and he can still call his a Porsche (modified but remaining true).

No need to get your knickers in a knot Adie. Look, it's not me claiming the $700 10 second V8 Porsche 924, it's you. The notion that I can't question because I didn't build your car is retarded.

Geez Rick, you've got quite a little vendetta going here... For the record, I have a 10 second car I built for $350 CDN. Actually, it's and 12 second car, it still has 185/60/13s on the back , but as soon as I get a set of 10 inch slicks for the back, it should run 10s without difficulty.

1981 Mazda RX-7, 400ci Ford Windsor smallblock, stock cam, stock 600cfm MotorCraft carb. As soon as I get a set of brakes on the thing, it's going racing...

For $700, I could turn that car into an absolute killer. I could put a good set of tires on it, recurve the distributer, get a new cam...

Sorry about the pic thing Adie, I posted a few of those pics on another board, because so many people are interested in doing this themselves.

Audit? Are you with the government or something? I hate to start another pissing match here but WHO CARES what you think?!? I certainly don't anymore and I bet the majority of the forum users would agree. So drop it. This thread had gone WAY off topic and needs to be locked.

'Nuff said.
