Reliability?

I would NOT put a 924 GT on the street as a daily driver, unless I had about $4K per year set aside for maintenance. ... <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" /> <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />

"...I have seen only 2 others, besides my own. And that doesn't include your car MAS. We'll have to rectify this situation sometime!"

I've seen three 924S's in the Greater Victoria area over the past year (not including my car):

1) A red 87 (met the owner... nice guy... car often seen around town)

2) Dark blue/black 88 LeMans automatic.

3) Grey (year ??). Only seen this car once, about six weeks ago one evening parked downtown.

I have a white 97... and I'm in the Sidney/North Saanich area several times a week. What colour is your 924S?

Mine's a red 87. I've met John with the black 88 LeMans and the other car was a white 924S parked in Sidney at a motel by the Anacortes ferry dock. Was it yours?

You've likely never seen mine as it has never set foot in BC until this week. In fact, John and I are heading over to Vancouver Saturday morning to pick it up. I just had it shipped out from Alberta and I'm dying to get behind the wheel!

No ... unless someone borrowed my car recently! Maybe that white one was a tourist?

Great to hear that you'll be getting your car back soon. I went a few days without my car earlier this month and started getting Porsche withdrawal

OK, first real cruise in the 924S, went along the coast by the ocean and down to Victoria. Awesome day, great road, perfect car. On the way back, some guy in a white 944 pulls up next to me at a red light. I look over and try to get the guy's attention but he would not even look my direction. Some people, eh? Had we not been locked in traffic, I would have blown his fat fenders off!

Yeah... no disrespect meant to 944 owners, but unfortunately, many of them do not know what a 924S really is.

I've even had some non-Porsche people, (usually) get in to arguments with me... telling me that my car actually has a 2 liter Audi engine.

What do they know? They don't even own a Porsche. Congrats, she's a beauty. I like my wheels more though.

Cool

What wheels do you have? I am interested in some 16" phone dials from a 944 if I can find a set at a reasonable price. Also like the 16" 928 style and the Design 90 rims. I'm thinking these are going to be rather pricy though. Of course, the 17" Carrera Cup wheels would be the ultimate, but I doubt that my loan officer would go for it...

The irony is that a '24S will take a 944 with authority with only the barest of tweaks...

Mine are 16x8 ARE mags... a 5 star, with flat wide spokes. It's a modular wheel to, so I can mess around with the offset and stuff.

A lot of people say these cars don't look good with new style wheels, but I think it looks quite nice.

I'd vote for a 924 GT - I'm biased as well - I've been running a 924 GT replica for the last 14 years and it's agreat raod car and track car.
It was converted to GT spec in 1985 by a recognised Porsche rally team in the Uk using all factory GT parts.
It has now done over 260,000 miles and it doesn't cost much to run. Fuel wise it's as economical as 931. Servcing cost have been minimal - I change the oil and filter every 5000 miles. Tyres (Bridgestone RE71's and the G Grid's) have lasted a long time and for track work I used to use RE71R's these woudl last about a season.
In short it will dick a 924S in handling and in a straight line. Due to it's basic motor design it costs less than a 924S to run.

Thats about the half of it. The GT is a nice car. I don't really like the box flares though, they don't quite seem match the front end.

Isn't the carrera much lighter than all other similar types, especially the 944?
